One reason being put forward why Freddie Woodman was not sent out on loan in August is that the club want him to sign a Newcastle deal.
His current deal last through 2020 and the news is the club wouldn’t sanction a loan for him unless and until he signs a new contract.
If that’s true, that’s unusual to hold up a player’s progression because he will not sign a new deal at the club.
Maybe he doesn’t want to stay on at Newcastle until hos current contract runs out in the summer of 2020 and he becomes a free agent.
Freddie Woodman – wants a loan move in January
In that case, will Newcastle keep Woodman in the U23 setup?
The good news for Freddie is that he has been called up to the England U21 squad even though he’s not playing first-team football.
It will not be interesting to see what happens in January and Freddie is not happy with the current situation at Newcastle where his progress is being held up by the club.
The Chronicle have reported they think Freddie will agree to a new deal this year and then will be sent out on loan in January.
It’s going to be interesting if Freddie doesn’t sign a new deal; will that mean the six times capped will be allowed to languish in the U23 setup for a full season?
That’s no way to treat an up and coming player at the club.
