There was a report yesterday in the Mirror that suggested that Rafa Benitez was concerned about the news that former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was being lined up by Newcastle.
That’s apparently in case Rafa cannot turn the side around this season – as he did so successfully last season.
The logic being used in the article is that Mike Ashley could sack Rafa before the end of the season to save himself from a fans’ revolt next summer.
But there is already a fans revolt going on and if Ashley sacked Rafa before the end of the season that fans revolt would reach a crescendo such that there would be no way Ashley could stay on as owner at Newcastle.
The article also flies in the face of Ashley making it very clear he wants Rafa Benitez to stay long-term at the club and that we need Rafa to get us out of the mess we are in at the moment.
There’s no doubt Ashley rates Rafa as a top manager – he just doesn’t give him any money to spend to build a top team on Tyneside.
Rafa’s significant skills as a manager seem to be working against him at Mike Ashley’s Newcastle.
Rafa Benitez – looks bemused by the logic in the Mirror
The logic in the Mirror is what we used to call “fuzzy logic” in the olden days and we see it is still alive and well in 2018.
Here’s the logic being used in the Mirror about why Mike Ashley could sack Rafa before the end of the season:
“There is little prospect of the 57-year-old extending his stay beyond this campaign with friction over the transfer budget bubbling under the surface.”
“And, armed with that knowledge, Benitez believes he could find himself a casualty with Ashley desperate to avoid a backlash on Tyneside.”
“The former Champions League winner thinks that by swinging the axe before the current campaign is over and by bringing in a replacement, it would save the billionaire from another monstering at the hands of the Geordie faithful.”
As we have said, that argument and logic make very little sense to us and by the way – Rafa is 58 years old.
What do you think about this?
