Simon Jordan made his fortune in the mobile phone industry and he is usually very outspoken and likes to keep that image alive by coming out and taking the contrarian view on things.
The 51-year-old former Crystal Palace Chairman feels that Rafa will simply look out for himself at Newcastle, and will wait until an attractive offer comes along and will take that next summer when his contract at Newcastle runs out.
That could happen but if he does leave there will be few Geordie fans blaming him – given the nonsense he’s had to put up with from owner Mike Ashley.
Simon Jordan – blasts Rafa Benitez
Ashley shouldn’t be allowed to run (ruin) a football club.
This is what Jordan told TalkSPORT about Benitez.
“It is difficult to defend the indefensible. I have mixed emotions,”
“I know that he walks on water, I know that they see him as the second coming. I don’t see him that way.”
“Rafa Benitez is about Rafa Benitez and if there is an opportunity for him to advance himself, something that he thinks is better than Newcastle, then he’ll be out the door and leave behind these adoring fans.”
“I believe Newcastle are a stepping stone for him.”
That’s really a criticism of Rafa’s character and we think it’s misplaced.
There’s no reason why Newcastle cannot pull away from the bottom three quite quickly.
In the 12 games we still have to play this year only one is against a top-six club – Liverpool away on Boxing Day.
That compares with the five top-six clubs in the 8 games we have played so far this season.
So we should be able to pick up some wins soon.
If we don’t then it’s time to be really concerned – even more than we are at the moment.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Yeah he lost a fortune at Crystal Palace.
He made a right pigs ear of it. They’d all sorts of financial problems and ended up in administration. Then a few of his other adventures went down the pan afterwards.

Comment #42Ok it’s Ashleys club and it’s his money can anyone explain why he doesn’t take responsibility for relegating the club twice and why the club owes him money.

Banging on his door where exactly, he’s had to go through Lee Churnley. He’s made his feelings clear via the media, we know exactly where he stands. Maybe he should have jacked but he’s always stated he’s never broken a contract, like SBR. If he was the shitehouse you make him out to be he’d have signed a five year deal in January.

Ever dreamed of owning your boyhood football club? By the age of forty-two Palace was in administration and Jordan had lost nigh on everything. Jordan spares no one, least of all himself, as he takes us inside a world where hopes and aspirations sit alongside greed, self-interest, overpriced players, dodgy transfers and top-level incompetence.
Definitely not bitter hehe

Comment #47Rotonda Heights, yep I’m aware of that – not sure we’d be able to do it. I’m pretty sure FFP wages rules don’t care where the income comes from, you’re still restricted on growth year on year.
Without paying top wages, you can’t attract top talent

Ffs, you just don’t or won’t get it. Rafa should not be banging on Ashley’s door for money – it should be the other way round with the owner having the ambition and drive to be successful!
Such an owner would have defined strategic and performance objectives against which progress and thus Rafa’s performance would be reviewed and assessed and plans made for the next stage – including which players are needed and how much would be needed with both parties working together for and during the next season.
As it stands, we have an owner whose focus is on Prem survival at as little cost and most profit as possible.
Ashley has the business mentality of a market trader intent on screwing as much out of his customers as possible. He makes Del Boy Trotter look like an angel.

Ashley Hasn’t backed Rafa at all in any window since we were free of the Championship so why does Rafa think the next window will be any different but Rafa obviously thinks it will be.
