How Was Newcastle’s Start Way Back in 1898-1899 – Better Than Today

This is the worst start since the 1898-1899 season, but in truth, it’s even worse than that one.

In the first 10 games of that season back in the 19th century, Newcastle had four draws and six defeats – one draw more than we have today after 10 games played.

But back then in the 19th century when the iPhone was still 109 years away from being introduced, and sliced bread hadn’t even been thought of – we got our first win on 5th November – Guy Fawkes Day.

We took Liverpool apart 3-0 in the 11th game of the season at St, James’ Park to register our first win.

And in the five games following that first win, we had two more home wins beating Bolton 4-0 and West Brom 3-0.

And on Christmas Eve we beat Sunderland 3-2 away.

Looks like we didn’t play with a goalkeeper – no wonder we couldn’t win

So this looks like this is the worst start in our history – after 10 games played.

We need some wins, and we can still pull away from the bottom three once we can get that very first win.

There must be three worse sides in this league this season – so we can survive,

That’s right – isn’t it?

And it remains a disgrace that owner Mike Ashley continues to run Newcastle on a shoestring – and he has now overseen the worst start to any league in our 126-year history.

Same for Rafa Benitez, but if we can get a new owner in, then Rafa can always win our first trophy since back in 969.

That’s if he stays on board which we think he will do next summer.

But Rafa must get some support from the owner – whoever they are – for him to be able to achieve that.

We can still turn this season around – let’s keep supporting the team through these very tough times.

What do you think?

    I genuinely think that.

A lot of managers based in Europe are just given players, they are there to coach only. They also have limited budgets.

Now that doesn’t excuse anything Ashley does as the damage he causes is so much more than not investing in the squad. It’s the lies, the club facilities getting worse, the apathy with the fans, etc.

I still think there are so many managers out there who will see an opportunity to manage in the prem league and take it. It’s win win for them as they get to show what they can do but if they go down, it’s expected and as long as they’ve shown some promise they’ll get another job off the back of it.

Up and coming European managers are even going to the championship now to get that exposure so it would happen.

I’m not an idiot who thinks we’d get a top established manager, but there are a lot of exciting coaches coming through all the time desperate for a chance.

    Transfer Sage,
If that manager was any good he’d be off after a season. If he wasn’t he’d take us down or be sacked.

Something to be proud of Mr Ashley ? The worst EVER start to the season in 126 years !
I reckon this is your last chance to prove yourself in January. SUBSTANTIAL funds for Rafa or he is gonna go and we will be in freefall in every possible way !
Rafa only wants to improve the club and to do that you must let HIM spend, NOT YOU !! Look back at his record. You must let him buy the players he wants not the equivalent to a cheap Chinese copy or loan deal that you keep giving him the go ahead for.
On a lighter note, I know it’s a mistake but is it really 1049 years since we won a cup ( 969 )

    Geordie-john,
I don’t think he’ll be proving anything in January other than he’s prepared to spend the clubs funds if we’re in the shite. If we miraculously put 30 points on the board by January nothing will be spent at all. It’s a never ending cycle of shite with him.

You do realise that in the 1898-99 season we overcame our difficult start and were promoted…..

I totally agree but I’m just trying to be slightly positive for a change. We all know he wont do shit about it and unfortunately Rafa will leave and we will go into freefall .
The GREEDY COCK-ney has to go !
Back to normal, AHHHH that feels better !!
