The Chronicle are reporting today that Newcastle scouts are monitoring 23-year-old Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek ahead of the upcoming January window.
Piatek signed a four-year contract with Italian club Genoa in June for a reported fee of just €4M.
But he has made a fantastic start to his Serie A career scoring 13 goals in his first 13 appearances in all competitions for the club.
9 of those goals have come in his first 12 Serie A league appearances for his new club.
The 6ft striker has recently played twice for the Polish National team with one goal and his play this season has also alerted some big European clubs.
So it could be a challenge for Newcastle to attract this player in January – but you never know.
While at his previous club KS Cracovia in Poland he scored 32 goals in 63 games, so he certainly knows where the back of the net is.
He made his international debut in September 2018, starting in a 1–1 friendly draw with the Republic of Ireland in Wroclaw.
And then he made his competitive debut in a UEFA Nations League match against Portugal last month and scored the opening goal in a 3–2 defeat.
23-year-old Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek
Piatek can play as a striker or as a winger and is he’s valued at £14M – almost 5 times what Genoa paid for him five a short months ago.
Update – later reports say the fee is £35M!
We don’t know much about the players, but his goalscoring record looks great.
It’s also looking like Rafa will get some decent money to spend from Mike Ashley this January to strengthen the squad.
Piatek would seem to be a good buy – we desperately need a player who is a natural goalscorer.
What do you think?

Comment #6strikers tend to score in patches, jib. if you look at his record in a weaker league just a few months ago, you have to suspect he is a dog having his day or just extremely suited to seria a which is as different to the EPL as can be. i doubt he’ll keep this record up but i could be wrong and nevertheless i’d be very happy to sign him or any of the other forwards we’ve been linked with. i’d still go for abrahams. might get him for a good price at the moment. other than that its difficult to find a forward. you need to buy one who hasn’t started scoring yet, because as soon as he hits the net a few times everybody in europe is after them and the price is silly. but if you buy someone who is having a once in a lifetime streak then you could end up paying millions for xisco or francis jeffers.
Jail for Ashley
