Rafa Benitez will try to get Mike Ashley involved in the January transfer window, and Rafa will want up to four players brought in this January.
Some will be on loan from the continent, but the manager may want to see the owner break Newcastle’s record transfer in January to convince him to stay on as manager at Newcastle.
It’s still undecided whether Rafa will stay at Newcastle.
But there could be some players leaving Newcastle in January.
If Florian Lejeune is fit by then, Rafa could well allow Ciaran Clark to leave the club.
If Lejeune is fit – Ciaran Clark could be allowed to leave permanently or on loan in January
Newcastle would want at least the £5M they paid Aston Villa for him in the summer of 2016 – and Ciaran has become a better player under Rafa at Newcastle.
The 32 times capped Republic of Ireland International was left out of the Ireland squad for this International break, and he now seems the odd one out at Newcastle.
The outstanding form of our two new center-backs Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar have put Clark down to 5th place in the pecking order.
If Ciaran doesn’t go in January he could be transferred in the summer; his current contract at Newcastle runs through June 2021.
He got the job done for Newcastle when he partnered captain Jamaal Lascelles in the promotion season in the Championship – Ciaran helped us get promoted, and he did great!
21-year-old goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is almost sure to go out on loan to get some first team games, and if Freddie doesn’t leave, then Rob Elliot could be allowed to move on loan.
But only one of the goalkeepers will leave in January with the other goalkeeper backing up Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow.
And there’s a decent possibility that Achraf Lazaar could go out on loan for the second half of the season.
The Moroccan has no future under Rafa at Newcastle, and he may even be able to get a loan deal (or permanent deal) arranged with Genoa.
It looked like he was on his way to Genoa in August, but the club changed their mind at the last moment.
Reports last month suggested Genoa could be interested in taking the player in January.
Rafa may also allow one or two of the top young players at Newcastle – like Sean Longstaff or Elias Sorensen – get some first-team football out on loan for the second half of the season.
And we’re not sure what the status of Isaac Hayden is – although he still seems to want to leave Newcastle, but Rafa will want him to stay at least through the summer.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

You need every position duplicated
plus
3 utility players
Clark is a half decent defensive cover man.

He knew that with Croatia’s fixture
congestion that they would get “leggy”

Comment #4I thought Delph had a good game and to think we could probably have bought him cheaply a couple of seasons ago, is he a St Georges Park product?

They may love the Toon

to sort of answer your question about Fabian Delph
He doesn’t play too much for them but he trains daily with
Man City , arguably the best squad of players in the PL.

Comment #10If we are looking like staying up I highly doubt Ashley will spend. Certainly not big. I see him letting rafa run his contract down then getting some yes man in instead.
It’ll be another decade before the bloke sells the club. Make a profit or he wont sell.

Comment #13I disagree on Clarke, as good as he was in the Championship he should have been sold in the summer, Lejuenes injury meant Ferdandez coming in. This should have been a natural progression before the injury. If you’re going to carry utility players you want them half decent in three positions and of a lot better quality than Manquillo and certainly better than Clarke at LB. With three other CB’s here for me Clarke is surplus, he’ll fetch 6 or 7M to a decent Championship club.

Comment #14Rafa said last month that the PL template
has changed in the last couple of seasons
It has fallen from 40 points to secure safety
to about 33/34.
Rafa has stated many times that his vision
of a club , is winning things occasionally. If
he has sensed that Ashley doesn’t buy into
that he’ll be offmans.
Conversely if he stays it will be because he
thinks Ashley has changed his view of ownership

Comment #24Jane i hope your very well and having an nice weekend, in reply to your comment about foreign mag fans disappear when England do well, well i live in Ireland Jane, iam 64 now and have supported Newcastle from i was 7 years old, i love Newcastle United and the Geordie people, i have zero interest in the English national football team so i dont have to disappear, my question to you Jane is why would Newcastle fans from another country have any interest in the England international football team, just as i totally understand why would any English football fans have any interest in foreign football international teams, to be honest Jane there are a lot of English Newcastle fans who also have zero interest in the England international team, the one thing that unites us Jane is our love for Newcastle United football team. Comment #28I dislike International breaks , cannot be bothered with the multi millionaires club that is the England team ..Iv never seen them bust a gut for the country since the Peter Beardsley, Gazza, waddle Robson era.
Southgate selections are a Joke in that there are better players left out of the team due to him cowtowing to the politics that stink out the FA .
Shelvey bieng a prime example.

Comment #33Lesh you got to admit Jibs a colourful Charecter. His fibs are the best ! He leaves just a little in any stories to leave reasonable doubt. He’s toying with most on here. Doesn’t give a Fk.
I laughed my cocktail off when he said he forgot that a certain player had withdrawn his application for Spanish nationality . Priceless.
Then there was the time he said John Martyn was getting amazing sounds out of his acoustic guitar ..I told him it wasn’t John Martyn creating those sounds it was John plugged in to an
echoplex . Jib came back at me and said “yes but it was an echo plex mark 5 ” ! .Priceless
What would we do without him .
He’s great entertainment .

By that definition we have some superfans on here…it also could be that these people don’t have anything better to do!

Yeah, wait! What? He’s busy and has got a life. More important things to do according to one other (who coincidentally doesn’t like Rafa either) funny that.
Only when we win though eh!
When we lose that life suddenly isn’t so important and he’s on constantly for days spouting sh1te. Ramming his anti Rafa rhetoric down everyone’s throats.
No. It’s just a coincidence.
He’s a sh1thouse and knows it
