There’s a report in Sports Witness today that Newcastle United are interested in Junior Firpo who has been at Real Betis for four years and this season made his breakthrough into the first team.
He has been in outstanding form this season and has played 16 times with three goals and two assists in all competitions so far this season,
Firpo was born in the Dominican Republic and has lived most of his life in Spain, and he holds citizenship for both countries.
In late August this year, Junior was called up to the Spanish U21 team and made his debut in early September starting in a 3–0 win against Albania.
22-year-old Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo – Newcastle interested
ABC Sevilla are reporting that the Newcastle and Crystal Palace are the two Premier League clubs most interested in the 22-year-old.
He has a €50m release clause in his contract at Real Betis, but no club is going to pay that amount for him – certainly not Newcastle.
Junior seems committed to Real Betis and told his agent earlier this season that he didn’t want to hear anything about transfers.
Not until the January transfer window opens next month because he wants to concentrate on playing well for Betis.
This is what Junior has said about the January transfer window:
“Until then, nothing can happen. It’s 100% true that I don’t know anything. I told my agent clearly that he isn’t to tell me anything. Maybe he’ll inform me on January 1st.”
Rafa and Newcastle could try to get the 22-year-old on a bargain buy because of his lack of experience.
But that may not be possible with Manchester City also said to be interested in the player.
Unless the cost of the player is £10M or less we don’t think Newcastle will pursue this potential target – but we’ve been wrong before.
The other left-back Rafa is interested in for the January transfer window is 19-year-old PSG French left-back Stanley N’Soki.
He was priced at €10M in early August but the youngster thought it was early to switch to the Premier League.
What do you think?

Comment #281I don’t understand your point Jib. Surely a new owner would want to protect their (substantial) investment? Charnley is a tea-boy and Benitez is demonstrably a decade past his use-by date. I know you are a union fan but you should at least listen to intelligent people who watch football.

Comment #282Lindisfarne……. I would hope that if a deal is agreed with someone that the FA won’t drag their heels too much in checking the suitability of the new owners. They surely can’t be any worse than the disreputable fat slug who has hardly treated the club or the PL with any consideration as a sporting organisation .

Unless we get the Venkys cousins, Oystons love child or Goldmember, I think we’ll struggle to find anyone worse than Mike Ashley.

I thought a decade was 10 years
Five years ago he won the Europa League
with Chelsea and four years ago the
Coppa Italia and Supercoppa with Napoli

Comment #286Jail…….. Exactly. There are some unscrupulous people out there but for someone to treat a whole region of people with total disregard for so many years for his own personal greed surely it can’t happen again.
I much prefer the idea of a consortium owning the club than one fat, stinking , greedy ,selfish, horrible parasite.

Comment #287The news of the plane load of Yanks arrivinghas gone quiet. I think if it is an American consortium then Trump will make an appearance in the toon. He’ll obviously need to discuss with Lesh all the political implications of American involvement in the club.

Comment #288The Europa League with Jose’s team whilst being despised by Chelsea supporters, and a couple of meaningless cups which Napoli fans valued like the Texaco Cup and the Anglo-Italian Trophy to Newcastle fans. Sorry mate, but on the big stage he is an irrelevance.
