With Mike Ashley on Monday night saying negotiations to sell Newcastle United had never been at such an advanced stage – the news today is that four groups are bidding for the club and each are willing to offer close to £300M – the price Ashley wants for the club.
One of the buyers is reported to be former Manchester United and Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon who has been working with Rockefeller Capital Management in the US to come up with the money.
It seems he has been successful in doing that and has put a bid together.
The Times are reporting that Kenyon’s group have signed a non-disclosure agreement and have been doing a deep dive into Newcastle’s finances.
We have to assume they are in good condition since Mike Ashley has used very little of Newcastle’s money over the last two years.
George Caulkin has reported that Peter Kenyon’s group are the group furthest along:
From today’s paper: Peter Kenyon leads the group Ashley claims are in advanced talks to buy NUFC. https://t.co/9H5BrDuijo
— George Caulkin (@CaulkinTheTimes) December 5, 2018
We would now assume they will move as quickly as possible to wrap up a deal since there seems to be a race on to sign Newcastle United.
The next step will be if a deal is agreed in principle with Ashley then Peter Kenyon’s group would be given exclusivity and then try to complete the takeover with Mike Ashley.
The Newcastle owner in his interview with Sky Sports on Monday night said no potential owner has been given exclusivity yet.
With there being other groups involved Kenyon will want to seal the deal as quickly as possible and will also want to bring some players in the improve the Newcastle squad in the January transfer window.
Those are some of the reasons why Newcastle could possibly be sold before the end of the month or early into January.
And Kenyon should be well backed by Rockefeller Capital Management who have massive funds available to invest in what they see as an excellent long-term opportunity
We have to assume they see Newcastle United as one of those, but there’s no doubt now that groups are trying to buy Premier League clubs who have a global presence.
One big advantage Newcastle have is we still have Rafa Benitez as the manager and if a takeover happens this month or early next year, they can sign Rafa to an improved long-term contract.
Rafa seems the perfect manager to lead Newcastle United forward under new ownership.
It does seem it’s the real deal now (excuse the pun) and it’s also vital that Newcastle do well in the league during December and have the fans right behind them.
If we start to lose a string of games it could slow things down.
The planned boycott for Sunday against Wolves now seems to be pointless, especially when the protest against West Ham seemed to have minimal backing from the fans.
And we lost 3-0 which doesn’t help things with the atmosphere at the game not being great.
The club is on the verge of a tremendous opportunity for growth and success.
It’s starting to look real – let’s hope it keeps that way.
Comments welcome.
Please help the needy at Christmas.
The website NEoffers.co.uk are running their Christmas campaign for the needy in the local Newcastle areas.,
Let’s see if we all can help more people in real need this Christmas and give people the greatest gift they will receive this year.
If you can do this it would be really appreciated – please give here.

We have an owner who don’t want to sell that has a track record of messing buyers about to his own end

Comment #90I feel more optimistic that a deal could go through and if it does hope it’s the bid from Kenyon and his backers that wins the day.
Kenyon has been around the Premier League and knows how things work – His experience would be a positive thing in my opinion.
Lets hope our 11 years of pain are soon to end!
Haway the lads!

To answer a question you keep asking over and over again, nobody is asking for Schar to replace Lascelles because he never had a very good game. I’m pretty sure Jamaal will be back tonight and Schar will have to deliver on a consistent basis to keep his place. Competition for places, something we’ve been missing for a long time before Rafa.

Comment #113We keep hearing that it may take months for this deal to go through, which may be true if by through, you mean finalised, or escrow closed. If you read the history of the purchase of Manchester City in 2008, it basically took three weeks between discussions and the issuance of a “Memorandum of Understanding”. At that time a representative of the “Abu Dhabi United Group” was installed on the new City board to facilitate things.

I was only commenting on the laugh you gave me when you said our big massive defenders would be too much for little Pee .
Then little Pee popped up and scored two ! I wasn’t attacking you .
Later on you got personal so in retort I mentioned your lack of Football knowledge as regards playing the game itself .. tactical ineptitude..then you get personal .
Have you never seen a good little player with a low center of Gravity and great feet give big defenders the runaround ?
Mind you talk a good game .
