The news today is that owner Mike Ashley is reported to have received four different bids from would-be new owners of Newcastle United.
The Chronicle is reporting that sources at Newcastle have said the bids are all in the range of £300M and a deal could be done in January.
We hope if it’s all true that will be early January so the new owner can help with the transfer window.
It also appears that former Manchester United and Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon has indeed put together a bid and that is one of the four would-be buyers in for the club.
It would be tremendous if his bid wins and he becomes the new CEO at Newcastle and can work closely with Rafa Benitez.
Arthur Blank’s organization denied yesterday they are interested in buying Newcastle, so he doesn’t seem to be one of the four bids.
The would-be buyers are said to be from America and the Middle East.
Mike Ashley – seems ready to sell
The negative is that this comes at a time when Newcastle have to play 8 games before January 2nd.
Newcastle players cannot have this takeover talk affect the Newcastle team – as it seemed to last year when Amanda Staveley was trying to buy the club for more than three months.
Ashley spoke out surprisingly in an interview on Monday night on Sky Sports and seems finally ready to sell the club and out our fans out of their misery.
This is some of what Ashley said then:
“I am hopeful – for the Newcastle fans, for the club, for everybody, that I will be able to step aside and we will be able to get an owner in that will please everybody.”
Rafa must now keep the players concentrating on their jobs, and we cannot afford another slump like last year because that could impact any takeover.
This is what Rafa said yesterday at his press conference:
“For us, we have experience of this.”
“We are in the same situation that we were in before. When we say, ‘business as usual’, it’s because we know that it will not change our plans.”
“Our plans are to look for the transfer targets. Fine. We are looking for the targets, so it depends who is there and who is available.”
“But for me, we carry on and thinking that Mike will be there, and we have to choose the right players for us. That’s it.”
Even if the deal is not complete it may spur the current organization to fund Rafa next month – at the request of whoever the new owners will be.
