The Chronicle is reporting today that Rafa Benitez has been promised financial backing in the upcoming January transfer window whether or not Mike Ashley has managed to sell the club by then.
They report that Rafa – whose contract runs out at the end of June – has been given assurances that new players will arrive next month.
We really hope that turns out to be true and the club could start the transfer momentum by agreeing to a deal to sign Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United.
It’s understood that Rafa wants four new players brought in next month and there is news filtering through on who those players could be.
This is a critical transfer window for Newcastle United if we want to keep Rafa Benitez as the manager past next June.
Rafa (shown above) has worked hard with his recruitment team under Steve Nickson and has a backup list of loan targets from Europe in case the manager doesn’t get the money to sign the players he wants in January.
That is essentially what happened last January, and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and Chelsea winger Kenedy were brought in on loan and were enough to turn the tide for Newcastle.
And amazingly we finished in 10th place – with very little investment coming from Mike Ashley.
If we do have new owners in the summer, we are hoping that everything will change and that Rafa will be able to buy some quality players and maybe sell some players who will no longer be needed.
That’s the hope.
I screwed up the center-back poll by having Schar in twice – sorry – please vote again – you have two choices.
I am having a bad day.

Comment #3So we are going to buy Miggy.
Rafa getting more funds.
And we are getting taken over……
Just checking that my pants haven’t been pulled down!
It’s all too much to believe.
My head says no way, more likely MA antics to quell protests and stop any trouble until after the TW.
My heart wants to believe (pulls the curtain back to peek with trepidation)………………..

Comment #5I did a bit scouting of almirion on the dennis wise scouting archives. Didn’t see anything there really to get too excited about. Especially when you consider how little time you get on the ball here. I did like a little reverse ball which he seems to quite favour.
He was voted MVP or scored most but then Bradley wright Philips was on that same list. I remember when he won the PFA player of the year when he played in England… oh wait, no I don’t. Not judging the kid just yet though. He might hit the ground running, if he comes here of course.

Comment #6I don’t think the actual dealings of this window are pivotal at all, it will obviously be an opening gambit but it will take a whole lot more than the 25M that should have been spent in the summer anyway.

Comment #13Rafa has said he’s not focused on the size of the spend in any one window, but he has suggested in the past he’s been frustrated by the failure to bring in his number one targets.
If Almiron is one of his prime targets, that would be a good start, no matter how expensive he is

i think we definitely need 3/4 new players this window and if Almiron is anywhere near the price being quoted in the press that will be the transfer pot gone on one player and that could be a disaster just waiting to happen

Comment #21hibbit, I hear what you’re saying, but even if there is no sale, who knows what the actual transfer pot would be? Even Rafa hasn’t been told in recent windows.

Comment #22I don’t know what to think about any of it today, so many conflicting reports and rumours from all the media sources. I hope Online Guy is proved right with his claims to be itk as he’s making them pretty robustly now. He has definitely put his reputation on the line and seems very confident that he knows what’s occurring.
So no more to be gleaned today now then , now then, ows about that then!

Comment #24If we don’t get points from our next two games, or possibly even if we do, Ashley is going to have to get his @rse into gear and buy a few players to ensure that we don’t drop down a division.

100% agree with you, last year I really got into the stuff the guys were sharing!
Still to this day I believe a lot of what was shared last year was fact but like Chinese whispers & people getting excited got embellished a little!
I really hope Online Guys info is right on the money because our club deserves to be competing at the very least, but I’m holding back from getting carried away until he shares something nobody else could know or guess!

Comment #35scott, Online Guy has already broken the news of a potential sale three days before Ashley started flapping his chops.
He knows something, I’m sure of it.
If the buyers have done due diligence and entered a period of exclusivity, the only thing which could go wrong is if Ashley moves the goalposts, which I think is probably what happened last time round, and is not beyond him this time either, unless we’re already at a point where he can’t.
This time, though, if he ruins another club sale opportunity, I don’t think we’d take it lying down.
Besides, Bambams is desperate for a new tumble dryer.

Comment #36Chatting with a friend, who said that May’s husband as well as dealing in the armaments industry owns a load of Cannabis farms in the UK, now legalised it would seem. And also will be a main supplier for CBD oils.
I can’t help feeling the the Brexit fiasco is playing out exactly as she wants it too in collusion with the EU politicians, Would I buy a used car from her, never.
Sorry to bring this into the blog but I think we are all getting right royally shafted from all side, not just on the football front.

Comment #38Anyone watching Mars, great little series and with a lot of relevance to climate change (you know that fake news stuff) and one little snippet is that St.James Park (just to give it a football connection) would be totally submerged along with Newcastle once all of the ice caps have melted raising sea levels by around 70 metres.
Our players will have to be amphibians! 🙂

We did go to Reiux Minerve which may have very strong Templar connection and a 7 sided church.
