Fabian Schar had to wait until November to get his chance in the side when captain Jamaal Lascelles was injured and had to come off at home to Watford.
Fabian came on and played exceptionally well in defense in our 1-0 win – the first of the season.
We then went onto to win three in a row and have now won four of our last seven games in the league.
Over the last few weeks, Schar has shown his vast experience and seems to have quickly adapted to the Premier League.
He can quickly set up attacks from defense and on Saturday at Huddersfield, he put a terrific ball through on the right wing to Perez.
The quick breakaway move ended with Rondon scoring the winning goal.
Fabian Schar – in action at Burnley
Schar is also an excellent defender and his partnership with Federico Fernandez has looked impressive when they have played together.
This is what Schar has said in the Chronicle today:
“Now I’m a little bit happier than two months ago.”
“It’s always good when you get opportunities to play, and I’ve had a few games in the last weeks.”
“If I can play, and also the team was winning some games then great. I really like to play with my team-mates for this fantastic club.”
“The fans give us big support. I’m pleased to be on the pitch helping the team. I try to do the same every week.”
“I tried to play my game. For the free-kick (Schar shot from the halfway line) I saw the keeper was a little bit far from his own goal, so I tried.”
“I didn’t think it was too far away.”
“At the end, the goal was a fantastic play. That’s the three points, and I’m really happy for that.”
Federico Fernandez was back in training yesterday having recovered from the calf injury he picked up against Wolves.
It will be interesting to see what defense Rafa plays on Saturday at home to Fulham.
One thing is certain – we picked up two excellent center-backs for just £9M in the summer.
Fernandez and Schar look like two talented and experienced acquisitions for us.
Comments welcome.

Ashley was at pains to say on Sky
that before January was not likely
It’s the media that have bent the

Comment #122Sorry to say this but I’m told that the due diligence is done but that the club is clearly not worth what Ashley is wanting for it.
So the question is do they pay 50miilion or whatever it is over the odds? I doubt it.
Looks like another stalemate to me.

Comment #123The matches may not be streamed live in the UK but they are in Europe Usa, massive world wide coverage.
I read a article a few years ago and a American ad executive spoke of the SD coverage at SJP.
He said if it was a American sports team it wouldn’t be allowed, can’t remember the reason, he went on to say if it was allowed and it was a American football team it would cost billions to advertise that much to that big a audience.
Not sure how big the pram is in the USA but it’s gets SD unrivalled ads, then how many streams from the USA are watched..Then China blah blah blah….
Ashleys has way more than £90m worth of advertising try double at least.

I’d love to know how much Ashleys pocketed from online sales at SD from those worldwide viewers..

If a potential buyer values the club at X and Ashley values it more then it’s up to the buyer to make an offered. If Ashley refuses to negotiate sensibly, then it’s clear, again, that he’s overvaluing it in the light of it’s value to his businesses. That being so, he doesn’t really want to sell the club.
Jib,
if you can offer a sensible argument against that, feel free.

Just to put things into peroective, there’s some incredible footage to be seen in this

Comment #134It seems Ashle has a figure in his head based on the potential growth of the club. If he wants what the club could be worth why doesn’t he remove the constraints places on the club amd maybe he could get what he wanted for the club. I thought he was supposed to be business minded?

Comment #136It makes me laugh that some people jump on what Journalists say in the shite rags and think for some reason these journalists have the inside knowledge of what’s actually going on.
These papers haven’t changed in decades and honestly only want to sell papers so they have to write something, always cryptic and they think but never actually have proof.
How the hell would they know if people don’t have the money to purchase, so here goes journalists, I want to purchase Newcastle United, I’m based in America I may have the money and I may not. There you go, read it tomorrow, another American based company has thrown there hat into the ring. Now three parties interested.

Comment #137ASHLEY going on holiday …
it does make any difference if to the take over he’s got his lawyers legal team ect ect … so if theres a offer made off MR X and its what ASHLEY wants for the club … surely all they have to do is pick the phone up tell him that MR X has put his bid in … it wont stop a take over just because he’s gone on holiday … the only person who can stop it is ASHLEY himself …

Comment #141Great words from Claudio Ranieri’s presser
about our manager
I saw him a long time ago in Valencia.
He is a great manager and won a lot.
He is very intelligent and tactically attentive
and has created a good group.
The team is intense, strong, tight.
Rafa is more Italian than me.

Comment #142I don’t know what to make of all the rumours today. I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going on not even OLG. Better not say too much though as we might be in for another bout of paranoid schizophrenia after he’s had a sesh on the waccy baccy.
In all seriousness I think there is some activity going on behind the scenes to sell the club, but as I’ve said before Ashlie wants to nick everything he buys and expects top dollar when he sells. It remains to be seen how much someone wants to own the club and if he really wants to be realistic in his demands.

Comment #144Absolutely Jib, but Ashley’s goal was to make the club self sufficient, fact, and I speculate, while still providing sports direct with an unrivaled free advertising platform. So the club has to generate funds by some means to get players(such as Joselu) over the line.

Comment #155I have to say, I don’t give a stuff about the potential advertising to some guy in China who may or may not be watching via a dodgy US stream.
The advertising revenue is based on the broadcast rights in the UK and other established markets. Any other argument is specious.
That doesn’t excuse Ashley from using our club as an advertising hoarding for his tat chain, but we need to keep this in perspective or, as Jib says, we are at risk of accusatrions of delusion which weakens our case. Hundreds of millions of pounds is an exaggeration, 100 Million Pounds is perhaps fairly accurate and is still a shockingly high sum.
