Newcastle Going After Long-Term Target in January

Newcastle United had Dutch International left-back Jetro Willems as a transfer target when he was still at PSV, and there is news today they are back in for the 22 times capped Dutch International.

He moved to Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of last year, and there is news today with the Mail reporting that Newcastle are keen to do a deal for the Frankfurt defender.

Rafa wants a left back brought in next month as a backup and competition for Paul Dummett, and Jetro Willems would be a good buy for us.

He cost around 5M when he moved from PSV to Frankfurt and the fee quoted for him is £4.5M – he is good value for that fee.

Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Jetro Willems

In May 2012, Willems made his debut for the senior Dutch side in a match against Bulgaria

At the Euro 2012 tournament, Willems became the youngest ever player to play at the Euros and the fourth-youngest player to play for the Netherlands, at 18 years and 71 days.

Even though he is just 24, Jetro has plenty of experience and would immediately challenge Paul Dummett for the left-back starting position.

Roma are interested although they also are after former Sunderland left-back Patrick van Aanholt, who now plays for Crystal Palace.

Willems was a recent target of Liverpool – but the Reds failed to sign the Dutch International.

He would be an excellent signing for us and certainly would strengthen the squad.

He played 192 times for PSV with 12 goals and 34 assists and has played 48 times for Frankfurt.

What do you think?

So Jibs answer to my footballing comment on Ki, which was factually incorrect imo was to say you don’t own the blog in response, how very mature and in the spirit of Christmas.

Jetro got NUFC fans excited in August 2015 when he was spotted
at SJP but he was there solely for his mate Wijnaldum’s debut

Half term report…Team 5 out of 10, Rafa away 7 out of 10, Rafa at home 2 out of 10.
We must buy a number 10 and quality midfielder.

    Repost.

Reading some of the comments from Rafa it would appear something is wrong behind the scenes. He sounds down and has given up trying. He works all hours without any reward or appreciation from the owner and would be seen to be banging his head against the wall. This would wear anyone down.

Ok he gets his salary but I believe his pride is at stake, but sometimes realisation sets in which it has, that the players are simply not good enough.

He knows there is not going to be a takeover, and with no report of money being available to buy decent players, he will be thinking why bother.

Rafa is on his way out and who can blame him. A golden opportunity missed.
