The Previous Two Seasons’ Stats Are Strikingly Similar

When we finished 10th in the Premier League last May by thrashing Chelsea 3-0 at home, our fans were upbeat.

We had been fighting relegation in the first half of the season but had pulled away nicely and earned around £123M for that 10th place finish in the league.

We thought some excellent buys in the summer transfer window, and maybe we could improve on that 10th place finish, and we had some money to do that too.

At least we wouldn’t be fighting relegation this season.

Wrong again.

Rafa Benitez – can he save us this season?

Mike Ashley didn’t attend one Newcastle game last season and ensured that Rafa had to again shop in the bargain basement last summer after he had done so well to guide us to 10th place.

Rafa was not allowed to bring in all the players he wanted and needed.

We are in much the same position today that we were a year ago after 21 games – although a little worse off.

Here’s how the last two seasons compare, and they are remarkably similar.

Let’s hope we can start improving soon, but we do have three very tough league games coming up by early February – starting today at Chelsea.

Sat 12 Jan Chelsea vs Newcastle 5:30pm
Sat 05 Jan Blackburn vs Newcastle 7:45pm FA CUP 3rd Round Replay
Sat 19 Jan Newcastle vs Cardiff 3:00pm
Tue 29 Jan Newcastle vs Man City 8:00pm
Sat 2 Feb Tottenham vs Newcastle 5:30pm
Mon 11 Feb Wolves vs Newcastle 8:00pm
Sat 23 Feb Newcastle vs Huddersfield 3:00pm
Wed 27 Feb Newcastle vs Burnley 7:45pm

Notice in those next seven league games we also play three relegation sides – but all at home.

We hope we can get something at Chelsea today.

    repost cos of the bus.

Joselu was our top scorer earlier this season.

And I agree with sing, if they’re wearing the shirt they should be applauded and pushed upward, not jeered and booed. Who in their right mind thinks it’s good to boo your own players????

I have said for ages our club should have Shearer as part of the coaching set up.

He met with Rafa I think either during last season or beginning of last season for ‘coffee’. I am sure Rafa would be happy to have the premier league’s all time top trumps striker helping with our strikers. It’s a no brainer – but I doubt Shearer would take it up whilst ash is still here.

Bambams, imagine the young ‘uns being personally coached by Big Al!

What a feeling that would be for them.

Things can turn pretty quickly in football, as we know.
Booing.. Wow that’s a touchy one, and has been addressed several times on here.
    Never done it, never will.
I didn’t renew my season ticket this year.. One of the things I don’t miss is sitting next to or near folk every fortnight who talk shoyte all game, and boo their own players off etc.

Just re-posting this for my own benefit.

    My team guess:-

    Sterry Schaar Lascelles Lejeune Clarke

    Yedlin Longstaff Hayden Ritchie

    Sorensen on bench perhaps?

I reckon our best chance of a win today would be if they had a player or two sent off! 😉

Not expecting anything out of today. We have a weak squad and are missing the few bits of creativity that we have.

Hopefully it’s a day where Rafa’s organisation pays off and we shut them out, maybe even pinch it from a set piece.

Yeah I guess I’m p!ssing into the wind hoping for that scenario. Although we did get a penalty last week, even if it was the cup and not an EPL game.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT £123MILLION???? In fact it was added to by the surplus of another £20m in the window. £143m in total apart from merchandising, season ticket sales, sponsorship payments etc.
Does anyone such as the Chron. ask these questions?
How can the FA turn a blind eye to this guy when they say in their rules that such money has to be invested in the club.
Is EVERYBODY scared of Mike Ashley and where is Chi Onwurah these days ? She’s gone quiet too.

Shearer is hero worshipped in Newcastle, he speaks how he sees it and as soon as he stated facts about Ash and the contract offer he was offered (when Al failed to keep us up) Ashley changes the name of the bar named after Shearer.

The bloke (Ashley) is that one kid who used to stand alone in the playground that all the parents ‘knew would turn out wrong’

Why did we have to end up with him, a whole generation has missed out on the fun going to the matches – because of this lying person.

I suppose the only reason I keep hoping there will be a takeover is I will be gutted if it doesn’t happen – as will we all.

Some on here have suggested no way has Ash used the premier league and transfer profit money to buy his high street shops – I am not convinced. You cannot put anything past this bloke for corruption and/or fraudulent activity. We just hope he is found out. There is £123 million and about £22 million this last year, not counting the merchandise, season tickets, pies, pints, corporate events….

Where has all the money gone !@@

    And breathe…..Rant over

Fella I totally agree, Sorenson would benefit so much from Shearer to name just one.

I would LOVE IT, LOVE IT if Shearer was back in some capacity.
