What’s Needed To Stay A Premier League Club – But It’s More Difficult Than Last Season

It would be almost unbelievable if Newcastle are relegated once again from the Premier League this season.

After somehow getting Rafa Benitez to come in and manager the club and then stay with Newcastle to get us straight back up form the Championship we thought Newcastle would be doing well by now.

But because of our austere owner, Mike Ashley – Rafa has struggled the last two seasons to avoid a relegation fight.

We did pull away last season with the fans completely united behind the team and behind Rafa.

The same thing is needed this season, but that may not be possible with some fan groups likely to demonstrate again against the owner.

That’s in the hope he will eventually sell the club and end this nightmare.

That will all boil up again at the end of this month, and while those fan groups have the best of intentions for the club, it could affect our home form.

Rafa Benitez – yes – we can stay up

And that hasn’t exactly been great so far this season.

But Rafa is convinced we can stay up and it’s important to him if he wants to stay on at the club:

“This squad can stay up. If we work like we did at Stamford Bridge and play with the same passion, intensity and work rate.”

“We will definitely have chances to get points against a lot of teams,”

“We know we can beat some of the teams we still have to play, and in the end, that will make the difference.”

“We have to beat the teams at the bottom of the table.”

Fans are down in the dumps at the moment, but we have home games coming up against Cardiff, Burnley, and Huddersfield.

If we can win all those games, we’ll be flying (very) high.

How Will Newcastle Fare At Blackburn?

Well knock me down with a feather . Why on earth would Diego Laxalt not want to come to NUFC? More fake news perhaps?

If we can beat Cardiff, then four days in February will define our season .Problem is Two HOME games against Huddersfield (23rd) and Burnley (27th). Will we have to play a weakened team against Huddersfield in case players get injured & save them for the Burnley game?

The way Ashley’s playing things just doesn’t make sense. There should be money to buy the players Rafa wants and needs now but according to Ashley, he won’t release funds until Rafa extends his contract – in case a Rafa replacement may not want those players. By the same token, any manager he recruits to replace Rafa may not be wanted by a new owner – if he ever sells up!

Ashley’s willing to gamble on not reinforcing the squad this window in the hope Rafa pulls off yet another feat of avoiding relegation or if we go down, using what money’s in the pot to recruit a new manager and players and that may mean Ashley loads more debt onto the club. Relegation would both devalue the club and offer no certainty of promotion first time yet again. It’s madness surely?

The way this is sticking up, I reckon Ashley has no intention of selling so wtf is he up to?

Just to reiterate, Sorensen cannot play in place of Joselu as he’s away with the Denmark U21s.

Think we’ll see Joselu again tomorrow night.

I had a thought that maybe Kenyon is Ashley’s safety net, in that he maybe has enough to pay Ashley’s championship price and Ashley will keep us if we stay up and sell to Kenyon for 200M if we go down and he keeps his advertising and tat shop.

The reason there’s no money to be spent on players is Ashley is keeping it in reserve in case we are relegated.

That’s his logic, there’s money there but he’s scared if we go down there’ll be nothing in the coffers to get us back up.

Most people would say this is ridiculous logic but it’s how Ashley works, he doesn’t like to put his hands in his pockets no matter what the PR says.

I guarantee if we go down the manager will get £50m to get us back up, I’d bet my left nut!

I cut see us coming straight back up but Ashley can’t see past the end of his nose, it’s not a gamble to him, he loses nothing and won’t sell until he gets what he wants!

I see that Mick “The Mighty Quinn” is the latest to criticise Toxic Mike
Speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT [Monday, 09:36], he said: “It is Mike Ashley’s club, and he can do what he wants, that’s his prerogative. But just say: ‘There’s no investment, there’s no money, and I want to get out as soon as possible.’

“The reason no one has bought Newcastle United is because he’s made it so difficult for people to buy it, and I know that for a fact. He’s made it so difficult.”

However is the way to try to protect your £300M ish investment to do absolutely nothing. I don’t think too many high ranking financial experts would back his gung-ho philosophy. But it’s his Club!

Rob Leenio – Pity it’s wintertime as Jokelu would almost certainly have got a better offer giving kids donkey rides on Blackpool beach but very reluctantly think you may well be right. He’ll lead the line at Rovers. You never know some rogue shot may go in off the back of his head or ricochet off his shin like against Liverpool last season.

OP. So if we go down Rio will be proven right and Toxic Ash will invest £50M in players to get us back up?
But he won’t need to “invest” as he will probably have sold Lascelles £35M Dubravka £25M Shelvey £15M Darlow £6M Hayden £8M. So brought in £90 M at least by then and got Rafa £6M a year off his payroll.
He’ll be quids in and still have free advertising for his Tat shops.

Ashley is a classic procurer he has always acquired
and (to my knowledge) never sold a business in his
    nat.
He’s shit scared that someone is going to make a fist
of NUFC and he’s going to get mocked for selling too
    low.

However the realisation has hit him that a parting of
the ways is the only way this can end and it’s time to
    go

I was told over the weekend that for many years Ashley has included the players wages to the price we offer for a player, that’s why we low ball every offer!

So if we pay £8m for a player & his wages over his contract is £5m then the £5m is paid into a players wages account!

So in affect all the current playing staffs wages are already covered until contract runs out!

The significance of this is because it’s been so long since we bought anyone the tv money last season & this season could all be there in its full sum because when we sell for big money it’s over 4-5 years at £5m-£6m per year covering running costs!

The theory the guy had is he has stripped the club to the bones, will sell remaining jewels in club, take 2 seasons tv money & sell for £150 -£250m depending on relegation but atleast taking close to £400m+

IV NO IDEA IF THE ABOVE IS POSSIBLE,IM NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THIS STUFF!

He won’t invest but he’ll let whoever the manager is spend the club’s money to get back up.

If we didn’t come straight back up THEN he’d put his hand in HIS pocket then add it to the club debt.

He doesn’t give a toss about the club, we probably generate enough interest in his ads in the championship, what difference does it make to him what league we’re in, as long as when he wants to sell us we’re in the prem he’ll be happy.

    Nothing would surprise me.

I’ve heard similar about the wages but I’m No financial expert, it all seems like smoke and mirrors.

In a way I think a bit like what Jib just said, Ashley has to go now, surely he can see it.

No one’s been able to unite the fans and nothing that’s happened has either, there’s a set of conditions on the horizon that could unite every Nufc fan.

Rafa goes, we’re Relegated and there’s no sale.

If the above happens I believe it will be game on for the fans, those 3 straws will break the camel’s back.

    On the footy.

Very happy for Cal Roberts, asked if he should get a chance last year and again during/after the Blackburn game.

From what I’ve seen of the youngins he’s closest to making it bar Longstaff.

Sorenson isn’t ready, too lightweight and doesn’t do enough in games for Rafa to give him a shot.
He scores but isn’t involved, we can’t afford to carry anymore players. He’s set for a loan imo.

We may see both Longstaffs at one point, looking forward to the game, I expect us to win.

Take on board Cook or Kenyon , or someone else
with a proven track record in footy, and work on
achieving primacy in a rapidly expanding global

Perez doesn’t turn many heads, but in a low-scoring side he averaged a goal or assist every other league game last season, while only five other players outside the ‘big six’ clubs contributed more in 2018.
