Rafa was his subdued self after the game in which Newcastle had their best result of the season and one of our best performances in beating fellow relegation strugglers Cardiff City 3-0.
Two goals from Fabian Schar and the third goal in added time from Perez was enough to give us a really vital victory and at home too.
It was our third win at home this season and our 5th win in the league so far this season and we improved our goal difference and moved out of the bottom three – which is always good.
Rafa Benitez – on the touchline today
Here’s what Rafa had to say after the game today:
“It was good. We won the other day and scored four in the FA Cup, coming back here after three days, we went to extra time and you could see the players were exhausted at the end.”
“We did good. We scored three goals so everyone has to be happy.”
“The main thing is the commitment of the players and then it was about trying to manage the game against a tough team, a physical team.”
“Fabian Schar has quality on the ball. It was his first goal and was a great goal.”
“The team was giving everything and this kind of game you know you have to work hard.”
“I said before we would still have to win a lot of games to stay up.”
Coming up at the end of February we have two home games against relegation strugglers Burnley and Huddersfield and we need to win those games too.
We need six wins in our remaining 15 games to ensure we stay in the Premier League – wins are huge for our survival.

Comment #3Rafa needs to have a stern word with Christian Atsu
about his decision making.
He shoots when it’s begging for a pass and vice versa

Comment #4Great Paully…you must be right then! How can anyone argue with that presentation! I applaud you! You must really know a lot about football…
What was it about Robdob today that was so good? Was it the five duels he won? Or the lost of possession. Maybe it was all the great chances he had or created? Take your pick!
Haven’t we been through these side remarks of yours? Do we need to address them again?

Comment #12Love the way Perez hung around behind the defender on blind side then sneaked past him and got in front of him for the third goal ..Clever player.
That’s the perfect way to do it. Good example for any up and coming striker to learn from.

Comment #23Yedlin zero votes? Seems unfair, he was brilliant. Although Schar was clearly MOM, I gave my vote to Perez, who was also brilliant. Apart from scoring, he held the ball well and made many good through balls. And he gets too much stick. He always tries, never hides.

The poll only gives you one option
If it was set up to give 1st 2nd 3rd
I’m sure Deandre would figure
