The Mail is reporting today that Newcastle have been offered left-back Milad Mohammadi, who plays for Russian Premier League cub Akhmat Grozny.
Rafa Benitez has wanted a left back to back up and challenge Paul Dummett for some time now.
But the fact we are being linked with the 25-year-old Iranian International probably means some of our higher priority targets are not available.
Scottish Premiership clubs Celtic and Rangers are two other clubs interested in signing the 26 times capped Iranian International.
The player is known for both his speed and versatility, and he can also play as a winger.
25-year-old Iranian International Milad Mohammadi
He has a twin brother Mehrdad plays for Sepahan in the Persian Gulf Pro League.
Mohammadi’s contract is up at the end of the season and Newcastle may elect to try to bring the player in permanently this month.
Usually, Newcastle will try to do loan deals for continental players with an option to buy – but this is an opportunity to get an attacking left back in for a cut-price fee.
Yes – Rafa is forced to buy in the bargain basement again it seems, but we did well last summer in bringing in Dubravka, Ki, Schar, and Fernandez for only £13M in total.
Rafa wants an attacking left back, so he has more options at left back than the defensive-minded Paul Dummett.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Newcastle try to bring the Iranian in permanently in the final 9 days of the transfer window.
Mohammadi came to prominence last summer at the World Cup when he tried and failed with a rather strange throw-in, in the 93rd minute when Iran were losing 1-0 to Spain.
Mohammadi is currently participating in the Asian Cup. They face China in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon.
He has played 70 times for his Russian club with 3 goals and 6 assists.
What do you think?

Comment #2So to date Jiblets has “met” Roy Orbiston, attended Shaka Hislops wedding, campaigned for shipyard closures with Chi Onwarha (why a former taxi driver satellite dish installer university graduate was campaigning for yard closres???) Anyway it seems that between him and OLG they’ve met more famous people than Madame Fussed.

Comment #4I’m not a prude but the Franky Boyles of this world should be banished to hell. You could wait a while before making jokes about a terrible accident.

It is really sad, first and foremost for the guy and his friends and family but for Cardiff football club as well. Surely one the world’s big guns can help them out with a loan striker.

Comment #13Rafa has a scheduled meeting with Ashley
at Benton later this week.
The media are assuming it’s to do with transfers
after a failed takeover
In fact it could be much more momentous than
that !!!

Comment #18OK, more delay, as we wait for the MA/Rafa meeting about transfers. MA will take notes and tell Rafa he will get back to him asap. MA will give the notes to Charnley, but Charnley’s dog will eat them. So MA & RAfa they reconvene as soon as a meeting can be scheduled. Finally, on the last day of the window, Charnley goes to work on it after a long lunch and a family issue with school being let out early. Next day Charnley reports “Too late to do anything, but a good effort was made.” .Heard this story before?
