Rafa seemed pleased with the way Newcastle played at Wembley today and after Salomon Rondon hit the post with a header after 60 minutes, we didn’t have much luck against a very good Tottenham side.
Martin Dubravka made one of his rare mistakes to concede a goal with just 7 minutes left in the game but before that, he was putting in another good performance.
New loan signing Antonio Barreca from Monaco made a late substitute appearance to make his debut for Newcastle.
And both he and Almiron will be available for our next game at Wolves a week on Monday night, so we must try to win that game.
And Newcastle should be a lot more effective on the attack with Almiron likely to start the game after a week’s training with the lads.
Martin Dubravka – in action today
It was disappointing today but we still played well and we thought last Monday that Newcastle would have easily lost the last two games.
“We worked hard.” “It wasn’t perfect defensively and they scored with a bit of quality from Son.”
“I was pleased with the attitude of the players, especially in defense.”
“I don’t blame anyone for the goal – anyone can make a mistake.” “It’s a goal that we could have avoided.” “We now have to look forward.”
“It’s been a positive week, but overall to get three points against Man City which no one was expecting was a big boost and to get new faces in will boost the competition.
“They can help sand improve the team and overall it is a positive.
“For sure, the target is still survival – get three points in next game and we are closer to staying up.”
This week has been a good week for Newcastle, the fans and Mr. Rafa Benitez.

Comment #48It’s a shame Dubs did that mistake today as it cost us the match. But putting things i to perspective most of us expected nothing from today’s game and he has been excellent 99% of the time. A real gen of a keeper.
On to the next one I say and we will hopefully see some Miggy Magic. On that note we can’ Put too much pressure on the kid either, he needs time to settle in, dor our survival stakes let’s hope it doesn’t take too long. Once he gets going though i think he will be immense for us.

Comment #50Let’s be 100% honest, anyone that blames Dubs for one mistake should have watched the whole game as he did his job saving us. Then look back at his other games, I saw David de Gea do the same thing on a few occasions and he’s meant to be one of the best in the world.
I’m more worried about the wolves game as they seem to be flying on all cylinders at the moment.

Comment #53I do think that Dubravka is becoming a bit of an issue with low bouncing shots
Man Utd and today very similar
You can’t afford to give such soft goals away
He doesn’t seem to get behind them and they either go through him or bounce off him
I agree he is solid in all other areas but these to mistakes are simply not good enough for a top keeper

Comment #72Jib best seems to be one of the games’ top men. That’s the beauty of rugby. We rarely find reason to love footballers other than for their skills. But a guy like Best or earls or Peter ó Mahony, they just come across as men of the people. That said, rondon is clearly a top man and Perez was lovely when I met him and I got a lovely pic of him and my daughter. Very shy man.

Comment #79The TV money has increased 6 fold since we bought Owen for what was serious money back then. 20 million nowadays is not in the same realm and you can’t be sure what you’re getting for it anymore. However, if Almiron can live up to some of the hype and add some extra pace as well as creativity, finishing and industry to the left side, to compliment what Perez gives us on the right, then we’ll be much more of a proper counter-attacking unit, not one that really hangs on, but bites back more often, particularly if Barreca can contribute too. Fingers crossed these two boys are good enough to start.
