There is a report in the Telegraph today that Newcastle will be paying Miguel Almiron £60K/week, but there are also bonuses on top of that.
That comes after reports last month that he wanted £100K/week to sign, but that was all about his agent Daniel Campo who was reported to want £4M all for himself.
But that’s all over now, and we have the exciting young player at Newcastle, and he could turn out to be some signing for Newcastle.
It’s worth remembering Rafa wanted this lad brought in after we were promoted in May 2017, but Ashley refused to pay out the money.
Rafa famously said at the time – “I am signing the players I can sign, not the players I want.”
Rafa is always several steps ahead of Ashley who doesn’t seem to understand that building a good team in the Premier League is where the money really lies.
Miguel was impressive in his interview yesterday, and there’s a steely character in the baby-faced playmaker.
Here some of what he had to say yesterday and he seems the perfect player for Rafa and the Newcastle fans:
“Football’s not just about skill and ability.”
“Especially in this league when the tempo is so high. It’s about working hard and to succeed, you’ve got to put a real shift in.”
“Don’t judge me on my YouTube highlights, judge me when I start playing.”
“As players of this club, Newcastle United, which has so much history, that is pressure in itself in terms of wanting to do well.”
“We know what the fans demand of us, but it doesn’t concern me overly.”
“Like every player who comes to England, I want to go on and achieve big things.”
“I don’t for one minute consider myself to be an idol or a hero,”
“What I want to try and do is do my best for this club and help out my team-mates by doing what I can out there on the field.”
“When I found out about Newcastle’s interest, I spoke to my team-mates, my advisors and my agent.”
“They came over here in advance, had a look at the city and sent back good reports, same from team-mates at Atlanta and those reports have been proved true.”
“I’ve had a warm welcome since I arrived here.”
“(The tattoo on his right arm) “It’s a passage from the Bible – ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.’ “
“But I’m not an angel, though I try to go every so often to church to put right my sins.”
“I’ve felt the support, kindness and good feelings in Newcastle already.”
“I felt they give that to individuals and the whole team as well. I really can’t wait to get started.”
Bottom line – we have another smashing lad in the squad, and we have a feeling Miguel could become a super-star on Tyneside under Rafa’s expert guidance.
But having said that we will need to give him some time this season – not to put any pressure on him.
Two or three similar types of player this summer in the right positions can make Newcastle a much-improved team next season.
