Dubravka Late Error Leaves Newcastle Heartbroken With 2 Points Lost

In a game that was supposed to have 4 minutes of added time Wolves equalized in the 95th minute when Dubravka, the Newcastle goalkeeper, failed to collect a high cross and it hit Boly and went in at the far post.

We were winning 1-0 at the time through a goal from Hayden in the second half.

That was the loss of 2 points and remember we haven’t won too many games this season in the league only six so it would have been another big win.

It was a cruel blow for Newcastle especially when the team was off to Spain after the game, and we don’t have another game for a long 12 days until we play Huddersfield at home.

It was heartbreaking, and unfortunately, it was Dubravka’s third error this year which has led to points lost.

Other than that he had another solid game.

Newcastle had played well, and Isaac Hayden scored a rare goal after 56 minutes to put us ahead: he was well set up by Fabian Schar.

Newcastle had defended with resilience as usual even though we were pinned back in the first 45 minutes, and it would have been a terrific win.

But at least the point takes us above Cardiff in the league on goal difference.

But we do need wins to be safe this season.

It was devastating for Newcastle fans especially for those that made the long journey to Wolves.

Almiron came on after 73 minutes to make his debut, and he looked good and should make a big difference up front.

It’s always been difficult over the years to support Newcastle United, and this is one reason why.

And with my health, I am supposed to always stay on an even keel – and that becomes difficult with games like this, so on a personal note – I have to be very careful.

Anyway, it was one point gained, and we would have taken that before the game.

You kind of made my point for me
    Christian Atsu
    Main position :
    Left Winger
    Other position(s):
    Right Winger
    Attacking Midfield

and the best you can say about him is
he put himself about a bit and made a
    saving tackle

For goodness sake Catchy all managers do that to take the sting out the game and waste a bit of time – you can’t possibly beat Rafa with that stick?

Blaming his late sub yet it is a clear goalkeeping error why we drew the game (away at wolves BTW).

I forgot benitez controls Dubravka’s every movement.

I know the hype around Almirion is because of his record breaking transfer fee, but this kid Longstaff is a player, he runs like Diame but is more effective with the ball, once his longer passing game comes, he will be the star of our team.

Lascelles, Lejeune, had a mare at the back last night.

Also you have to say it was a tactical masterclass by Rafa – he completely nullified Wolves game.

of course it was, i’m not disputing it.

but the fact Rafa is escaping any criticism for his part, just shows the god status he holds in here.

Martoon agreed. Just like he did in the first game aginst them.
Just as he has against mancity twice this year.
Just like us being in every game this season really.
Non of the big clubs except for liverpool have been able to play there game properly against us.
All you hear is chelsea is having an off day, mancity is having an off day. Man utd is having an off day.
Never any credit to the toon and how weve played.

so you really think that? i thought it was quite poor when you consider how many times they got through, it was more luck than tactics.

but hey, you see it which ever way you like.

Yedlin lejeune and lascelles has really bad games last night, yet people think tactics were good,

    try and figure that out

Catchy what did they actually do with the ball though? Tbh they looked devoid of answers last neet.
Nunos face in the 85th minute said it all.
They went ultra attacking at the end and forced a draw.
3 4 3 they went in final minutes.

Howare then catchy. Give us a catchy tactical masterclass.
You seem to be the knowledgable one.
Give us a minute by minute break down of the game what you would of done differently.

Longstaff is calm and unhurried in his passing. Yedlin had a nightmare game. Lejeune and Schaer were uncertain at times, but Lascelles was competent.
Regarding the last minute, Almiron was fouled in the corner, right under the linesman’s nose. With our constant defending we are bound to fall foul of a hail mary hoof at some point. VAR may have wiped it off. Who knows?

Aye longstaff just doesnt look out of place like.
Like you say he just needs to learn his trade more.
Only way hes going to do that is by playing.
    Long may his development continue.

Catchy be realistic – we’re not going to play away from home without the home team getting a few chances! but I, the commentators and the pundits all said that Wolves were not allowed to play their game and that’s why they looked so tame but hey, obviously you know better than all of us!

they had 22 shots to our 9
8 on target to our 3.
13 of those shots were in the 18y box and 3 in the 6y box 6 long range shots

that’s not nullified, or good tactics.

dubravka made 7 saves, and he messed up the easiest,

but if it was a tactician at his best, what was good about those?

This 3 at the back formation is working wonders for us. It can very good in attacking sense if required too. Rafa has been brilliant in ditching the 4231 and goijg with the 532.

Long may rafa continue this formation.

Yedlin had a mare but that’s yedlin. He’s never consistent. Be sensible and don’t ask him to be dropped. Because next game he might be our biggest attacking outlet again. He’s inconsistent but could be a very good player.

Rafa’s tactics were spot on last night, we would have won if not for a combination of a keeper who was over confident in a ref to give him some protection and a ref who decided that he didn’t need it. Daft goal, but Dubs will learn. His shot stopping is excellent, his aerial game needs some work, though he looked solid under 90% of the crosses which came in last night.

Longstaff was excellent, bossed the stats as a defensive mid. What’s even more impressive is that this is not his natural game, he has a great deal to offer in the offensive third also and will have an opportunity to prove it at some point. He and Diame together in midfield will be beast mode.

You can see how hard Hayden has worked this season – he’s unrecognisable from the player who was sent off vs Cardiff and came back meek and wan. He’s found his stride and his mojo and looks quality again. JonJo may well struggle to get his place back. Our best form this season has coincided with his absence from the team.

Lascelles was superb last night. He was one-on-one with some tricky forwards on a number of occasions and showed some good agility to win the ball from them. Solid, dependable and getting back to his best form.

Almiron looks exciting. His energy and enthusiasm are plain to see and he has no small amount of skill. Little lay-offs followed by a swift acceleration into space seem his stock-in-trade. If our midfielders can find his runs, he’ll cause havoc.

All in all, many positives from last night. I could understand Rafa’s anger and disappointment. I wonder if he’ll see some kind of censure from the FA for the way he spoke to the ref at the end? I hope sense prevails and nothing more is done, but it’s something that will be in the ref’s report.

come on man, they played there game, it was poor finishing, 16 shots in total inside our 18y box. that’s a lot.

we are better away from home, but attic wise they got it right, but bad luck held them back.

Newcastle were denied by a late dubious goal and a clear foul on Almiron in the build up to that goal, yet Catchy comes on here today to criticise Rafa for a late sub which every manager does to run down time when they are winning, says it all, he will have been delighted we conceded just to find something to slag Rafa with, the last 4 games we have played Cardiff, Man City, Spurs & Wolves 7 points from 12 and have looked good, yet he crititcises him for a sub in injury time

yeah dubs made a costly mistake …

but the ref robbed us where did the extra 2 mins come from ??? …

the board went up it said 4 mins not 6 mins yep we were robbed …

but a point against wolves ( should of been 3 ) is a good point …

also we have players coming back so think we will be ok gonna be tight though …

Longstaff is developing into a special player. Reminds me of Carrick, always seems to have time on the ball, never rushed and has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. Very exciting!

Catchy you rely far too much on stats – use your eyes man. A shot on target can be a tame header straight at the goalkeeper or trickle into his arms – Dubravka made a couple of really good saves otherwise he looked comfortable. A couple of their shots nearly hit the corner flag but they still count!
