Dubravka’s Mistakes Starting To Cause Concern On Tyneside

It was another mistake by our goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in the final seconds of stoppage time last night when Wolves equalized.

Last year Martin was magnificent in the Newcastle goal, but this year in a short six weeks he’s made three mistakes against Man United, Tottenham and Wolves that have lost Newcastle some valuable points

And points are precious if we are to avoid the drop this season.

Apart from that mistake last night Dubravka looked solid, but at times his lack of concentration is worrying.

I used to be a goalkeeper back in the day and concentration is so important – but those were back in medievil times.

🙂

Martin was bought in from Sparta Prague for only £4M a year ago, and at that price, he looks a bargain buy.

Martin Dubravka making a good save last night against Wolves

But he cannot let these errors creep into his game otherwise Rafa could try to bring in another goalkeeper in the summer.

Always assuming Rafa will stay with us beyond June.

21-year-old England U21 goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is improving all the time, and he could get a chance.

The next two games at home to Huddersfield and Burnley are absolutely crucial, and we cannot let in any sloppy goals in those games.

We need two wins in those game – that is vital to our survival.

We expect Rafa will keep faith in Dubravka but also try to find out what exactly has happened with his goalkeeping while in Spain.

Martin has to have the confidence to overcome these errors, and we hope he does just that – it’s vital for our season.

He was brought in to fix a goalkeeping problem we had at Newcastle a year ago, and we hope he does well through the end of this season.

Munster from earlier, how can you say Longstaff only got his chance because of injuries? Rafa’s been grooming him for two years so that when the injuries came, he was ready. This is what good managers do.

    You surprise me at times.

Apart from the mistake, Dubravka had a solid game.
He has recently cost us 4 points if we assume the mistakes v Man.U. and Spurs we’re down to him.
In a team scoring fewer than one goal per game the pressure to keep a clean sheet has to be massive. Any mistake and the team loses points.
Rafa has an attacking option now in Almiron who hopefully will help to put a bigger goals gap between us and our opposition as the game nears it’s end, reducing a lot of the pressure on the goalie.
Woodman could be given a run in the team, but for me, Dubs. is mature enough and experienced enough to justify Rafa’s continued confidence in him.

He’s made a few mistakes, there’s no doubt about that.

Rafa isn’t very bold when it comes to dropping players out of form, he usually keeps them playing much to my own frustration. So don’t expect Woodman or anybody else to appear between the sticks even if Dubs carries on making mistakes. Rafa will stand by him just as he did with Joselu.

Rob aye family is proud as punch like, we joke on that a gave kelland his luck. Walking to the chippy when he was a proper bairn round me nanas in the leam, being the older of the bairns there i put him on the inside of the path instead of next to road. Bird shit on him instead of me thought i was the lucky one at the time.
Hope all the youngsters make the grade. Hopefully at the toon but if not a hope they make it in the game.
Love it when people from the north east do well for themselves.

Jib, you’re an absolute melon. You know full well that I was referring to the time that Rafa would not drop Joselu when he wasn’t performing. Games went by and we all called for him to drop Joselu but he stuck by him and nothing changed. He eventually did and things began to change. I clearly wasn’t referring to the time when he finally dropped him and the subsequent games afterwards… As if that needs explaining.

Why do you struggle so much to grasp things? I find you fascinating.

Dubravka should be commend for all the fantastic saves he makes, yes he may have made a mistake or two but you have to blame our team as a whole, if anyone is to blame for all the pressure we put ourselves under at the end of the game.
Not forgetting the so called furgie time Wolves where given.

You should have an email string forwarded by Dr Ed (admin@nufcblog).

If you have an email address for TMG, perhaps you might think it useful to let it know about our mails.

Beermonkey just might have the answer here. We have to hide our good young players so that wor beloved owner doesn’t sell them. How old will they be when we first see them? To be on the safe side Rafa had better wait until they are at least 30…

as much as i want to see longstaff finish the season i fear that with no rafa if a half decent bid comes in ashley will get his chopper out (sorry helicopter ) and the lad will be away
its not like we will give him a new deal for his fine form

Robleenio mentioned it ages ago but i didnt want to make much of it at the time but a think ashley has somehow stumbled upon the modern day class of 92. It makes me feel sick.
I know they aint going to do a man u back in the day, but he could have the dream ticket geordie youths that are actually good all at the same time. Thrown in our young foreign geordies and the youth setup is actually starting to take shape.
Sadly ashley will probs spoil the party and cash in.
Only time will tell. The future could be so bright at the toon.
We all live in hope that we will get our day one day.
    Hopefully in my lifetime.

    Boys

The game is over, I for one am happy with a point – wanted three but it’s another point. Ref added what Perez delayed walking off, but I do think the keeper could have done better – I also believe it is a foul, his hands cover Dubs eyes.

Dubs is in the top 7 keepers in the league for me, all keepers are remembered for the mistake and not the other great saves.

I am more concerned that our back three let him wander in, not good at all. Then there is the Rafa ‘mumbling to himself’ as he walked onto the pitch – I genuinely think Rafa is close to having enough, I cant see him staying in the summer and who can blame him, total professional for me, just my opinion.

We wont get relegated, might finish 6th from bottom unless Miggy is some superman, then we might get Champions league place eh !

    Enjoy your evening boys

so all Dubravka good work is just written off at the stroke of a pen not a word about the points he’s earned us or the amount of times he’s kept us in the game. yes he’s had a dip in form it happens,
can anyone remember De Gea’s first season at Man U,
some of the the comments on here are way over the top from the so called fans on here that will use any stick to beat Rafa with pure madness in my opinion

    Dubravka
Was it a mistake not sure image from previous article looks like a foul as Boly had his hand across dubs eyes when he was trying to catch it.

By in By – who the F**k else are we going to play in goal – 6th best defensive record and people are moaning – kept us in the game yesterday.
Woodman not ready weak as dishwater got bossed against Blackburn – needs to go out on a season loan in the Championship and Darlow – no disaster waiting to happen

ARGHHHHHHHH – some people are never happy !!!!!!

Dina’s gone from hero to villain over two bloops. Yes the points are important – but So’s his confidence. Are his critics saying they’ve never made an error of judgement? If so, I’d safely say they’re either in denial or liars!

Let’s not forget Dubs had a player crawling all over him and that doubtless limited his jump.

All the lad needs is a friendly arm around him and some gently given advice – possibly a short rest with Elliott taking the job on for a game or two.

If Dubs becomes the fans’ new target, he’ll be off so just step back a little and help him, not beat him over the head.

It is a foul, all the pundits could say was the keeper could have done better – I think he should of punched it but it is a foul. How can you catch a ball coming down with snow on it if a player has his eyes wrapped around his eyes.

Onwards and upwards – we will pick up some wins over next few games.

35 points will be enough I think, just need Cardiff to start losing games again.

Lesh agree completely, it was dubs that kept us in the game with some fine saves. I voted him my man of match in poll because without there goal he was pritty faultless.
Woodman is a newcastle keeper. But a future newcastle keeper.
He needs time to develop kinda like courtois situation at chelsea was.
Give the lad a break hes been top class since hes came in.
Dubz has been the most consistent performer of the team this year, probly player of season up to now.
