Rafa Benitez wants Salomon Rondon signed permanently as soon as possible.
And that’s not too surprising given how the Venezuelan has become a crucial player in the Newcastle team.
His hold-up play is first class and he’s scored 7 goals with 3 assists for us this term and looks the part up front.
Part of the problem with signing Rondon full time is owner Mike Ashley.
Rondon will be 30 in September and Ashley would like to sign younger players.
But the signing of Rondon will be one the things Rafa wants sorted before he signs a new deal to stay at Newcastle.
Salomon Rondon – huge success at Newcastle
Or at least be assured by Ashley that Rondon will be signed in the summer.
The fact that Newcastle tried to sort out Rondon’s future late in the January window suggests Rafa is desperate to have the Venezuelan at Newcastle on a permanent basis.
West Brom reportedly wanted £15M for him in January and that’s a lot when you think he has only one year left on his contract at West Brom.
Mike Ashley will try to get him to the club for the lowest possible cost.
Maybe a loan deal for the last year of his contract is possible, but it could be a high loan fee for him, but then he would be a free agent next summer.
He was Rafa’s first choice in last summer’s transfer window and fans can now see why.
Rafa would perhaps be willing to offer Jacob Murphy in part exchange.
But we have a feeling the manager wants striker Dwight Gayle back at Newcastle next season.
We need a lot more strike power in the side next season.
What do you think?
