Rafa’s Number One Summer Target Priced Out Of A Deal

The Northern Echo is reporting that West Brom want £16M for Salomon Rondon in the summer.

Well, the best of luck with West Brom getting anywhere near that figure for a player whose contract runs out in one year and is not interested in staying on at the Baggies.

He is desperate to stay long-term at Newcastle.

The Northern Echo (Scott Wilson) also report that West Brom value Dwight Gayle at only £10M and would take Dwight in part exchange and £6M in cash.

Mike Ashley refused to pay out £16.5M last summer for Salomon Rondon because of his age, and the Venezuelan is now a year older, and he’ll not be willing to pay out £16M for him this summer.

With the Venezuelan having only a year left on his contract that makes the £16M fee a little bit stupid.

He will become a free agent next summer.

Before the Baggies let Rondon join Newcastle they triggered a one-year extension to Rondon’s contract which means it runs out next summer rather than this summer.

So the fee will be a non-starter for Newcastle, and so it should be.

But with Dwight Gayle having already scored 16 goals for them this season and Jacob Murphy scoring two goals in three games so far on his loan deal, the Baggies may want both players from Newcastle in the summer.

Newcastle will need to come to some deal and agreement for Rondon – a loan deal for one year would be the best option for Rondon.

And then signing him as a free agent next summer.

But a lot of the negotiation will depend on whether West Brom are a Premier League club again come the summer.

One thing that makes it imperative that Newcastle somehow keep Salomon Rondon at Newcastle next season is that manager Rafa Benitez will demand it if he is to stay on Tyneside managing Newcastle United.

He’s one of the most important players in the team this season.

What do you think?

    Rondon has always been £16m
    Gayle has always been £10m
Why do we draw things out endlessly, try to offer pittance for the players we want and extract maximum for those we sell? We have spent an average of £4m a season over the last 11 years.
Just pay the going rate for once for goodness sake.

Honestly if West Brom want Dwight and Jacob then surely it would be Rondon plus cash coming our way and not the other way around.

If they don’t get promoted then maybe they’ll take a straight swap? Why risk losing him for nowt when his contract runs down, or get a greatly reduced fee in the winter transfer window? Chances are they’ll get promoted and he’ll stay with WBA for another season in the Premier League.

Gayle for Rondon I mean, not taking Murphy into account. Definitely player plus cash if they want both.

Thing is Rondon has shown his true quality now he is 100% fit but if West Brom don’t get promoted they will need to get rid!

Could see other premiership teams interested in him I mean could Spurs go in for him as backup to Kane? Reckon Rondon would sit on the bench for 80k a week ! A lot of his moves in the past have not always been football first !

Gayle is worth more than when we signed him 10 million for a championship goal machine is daylight robbery when you see the prices of players moving in the championship !!

Rondon and 10 million for Gayle and Murphy seems about right 🙂
