French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting that Newcastle were one of the clubs last month who tried to persuade Lyon forward Martin Terrier to move to Tyneside.
We had been linked with the Lyon player for some months, and it looks like he was one of the players Rafa wanted last month.
The other Premier League team interested in the player were Fulham, but Terrier seems to be happy at Lyon and wants to continue playing in the French League.
The 21-year-old can play as a number 10, and he has played 5 times for the Lyon first team so far.
French U21 forward Martin Terrier
Terrier moved to Lyon in January of last year from Lille for €11M – and Lyon loaned him straight back to Strasbourg at that time.
L’Equipe are reporting that a number of clubs, including Newcastle, were interested in signing the 21-year-old last month.
Terrier’s agent is Paul Schianchi, and he said his client wants to succeed in France:
“The goal is to succeed in Lyon. He is very well integrated in the group, in the city.”
The Newcastle manager wants five new players brought into Newcastle this summer if the Spanish manager decides to stay on at the club past June.
It will be interesting to see if Rafa makes another attempt to sign Terrier this summer.
He has played 11 times for the France U21 team with 7 goals.
