Rafa Benitez has been interviewed in the Madrid paper Marca today, and he says that Mike Ashley knows what he needs to stay on at Newcastle past this June when his current contract runs out.
Rafa is refusing to have any talks with Ashley and Charnley until he ensures Newcastle are safe in the Premier League for this season and with 12 games to go we are just one point above the drop zone.
But we are also just 7 points out of 10th place and Everton, so if we can string some wins together, we could finish a lot higher in the league table.
That’s our hop for the rest of the season.
Rafa has given a lengthy interview in Marca who regularly like to interview the Newcastle manager.

This is some of what Rafa said:
“The owner Mike Ashley knows it: me and my team are looking for a future project, competitive and ambitious.”
“Let’s see if we are in the same line.” “It does not depend on what I believe.”
“I stayed in Newcastle and it was a high risk.” “We could not save them the first year, we missed a couple of games, but the next we went up.”
“It is a top club and to stay was a sign that we are professional coaches.”
“We are in it to win titles, avoid a descent or whatever.”
“Then the idea was to invest to enter the top 10, but the money did not reach the expected level.”
“Now we are once again solving a problem of that lack of investment.”
“Each owner manages his club as he wants.”
“Newcastle has everything to be there, in the top eight, but it is not happening.”
“I hope it is done in the future.”
“My continuity is stopped, I want to focus on these games.” “Each match will be a final between now and May.”
“I arrive (each day for training) between 7.30am and 8.00am and leave between 8pm or 9pm.”
Rafa is still very ambitious to take Newcastle to new levels and win some trophies on Tyneside.
In short – Mike Ashley is not – and that could yet see the manager seek pastures new this summer.
If he is allowed to leave all hell will break loose at Newcastle with the fans devastated if we do lose Rafa.
Mr. Benitez needs investment in the team from Ashley – as the first requirement to stay.
If he’s looking for some ambition from the owner – he will not find any.
