Rafa Talks About Almiron’s Home Debut – He’s A Different Option – And So Positive

The performance of Miguel Almiron on his home debut yesterday and the valuable 2-0 win against Huddersfield has galvanized the Newcastle fans.

Almiron has something we have never had with Rafa at the club – a legitimate playmaker who has speed and skills galore.

He can open up opposing defenses and score goals himself, and he was so close to scoring a number of times yesterday.

The Paraguayan hit the post after 13 minutes when he brilliantly chipped the ball over the goalkeeper.

Salomon Rondon scored his 8th goal of the season and Perez scored his 5th – both Newcastle goals coming early in the second half and killing off the game.

Miguel Almiron in action yesterday

Here’s some of what Rafa said at his press conference after the game:

“Really pleased with the performance and three points.”

“We needed to win and after the games yesterday it was important to do the job. First half we were pushing and second half we were on the front foot.”

“Everything we had to do, we were doing.”

“Yesterday when you asked me I knew he (Almiron) was playing! I just made sure you didn’t have the line in the newspapers.”

“The crowd could see he was a player with energy and dynamic. If he continues to play at this level they will enjoy his football.”

“We know what he can do.”

“He did well. He is a different kind of option. He has been really positive and it was a pity for him that he didn’t score.”

“He’s very dynamic and he has good movement behind the defenders and between the lines.”

“It’s now important to settle down in the Premier League and understand the mentality of the PL.”

“If he can stay at the same level and score a goal, it will be better.”

We have another tough game on Tuesday night when we play Burnley at home.

If we can win that game too, we’ll be flying high – but Burnley are a team in form having beaten Tottenham 2-1 at home yesterday.

    Quite a home debut.

The squad has been crying out for a player like Almiron for several years.

Only his first game and you could see the positive impact on everyone. Perez looked better than I’ve seen him for a while and the rest of the players seemed to find a extra half a yard.

Longstaff was class and it was a joy to watch him hit a cross into the six yard box without taking a touch. Bright future for that lad.

There should be a new rule that if you hit the post 3 times you get a pen.

    Optimistic,
If miggy had of scored that lob early doors, he would of run riot with goals.
Just trust Rafa with his signings, the ones he actually wants.
Miggy is going to be worth triple his fee soon man, obvs hope hes with us for a long time.
and the club made the point clear that he was a Rafa signing. ( blatantly trying to mitigate incase he turned out a dud)

He brought his A game on his debut hopefully he can keep that standard.

I was impressed with his link up play his running in behind and his all round play, he made some great chances.

Theres goals and assist pretty much guaranteed with him, good buy.

For once a player to play a specific position from Ashley, Rafas choice but usually it’s what evers going on the cheap. Hope it doesn’t stop there, I’d like to keep Rondon and get another decent forward.

Burnley, crystal palace and us showed our intentions to stay in the league.
Its not within the realms of possibility to storm up the table here. Try catch Bournemouth in 9th. Should be a mini game we play now.
We need southhampton to lose today. Keep that 4 point gap.
So tight the prem this year.

    Op,
Same miggy and rondon linked up class, same with perez. The missing link in attack basically.
We need to keep getting his calibre of player now,
Rondon signing and another, maybe that martinez from Atlanta.
If we cud get Rondon for gayle and murphy and then buy martinez id be happy.
Competition added in the wing back department would complete out defence.
Goalies we got dubz then young woodman (who will be a toon great one day hes just got to be patient)

First team is looking pretty well balanced now. Nice competition in the middle. Played some lovely passing movements before the red card. Liked the way perez and Almiron combined. They looked perfect for each others’ games. Them and Rondon could grab a few in the last part of the season.
The worry is the back up in those positions. Atsu has had some good form but you’re never certain if he will produce an end product. The key is the competition the addition of almiron and the emergence of Longstaff have created. The only person I couldn’t see stepping up is Joselu. I like the guy and he has shown glimpses of ability but it just isn’t working for him here. So if we sign Ron permanently and another similar striker we could break in to the top 8. All hinges on Rafa staying on. We have the makings of a stable premier league team I would hate to see all Rafa’s work disassembled by the continuation of the NUFC status quo.

On another note, it is worrying to see that Sorenson is getting no game time at blackpool. What’s the point in a loan if he’s not playing? Unless he is injured.
