One Change For Newcastle – Manquillo In For Yedlin

Rafa has just announced his side for the game against an in-form Burnley side at St. James’ Park tonight.

There’s one change with Javier Manquillo getting the green light and he comes in for DeAndre Yedlin who is on the bench.

That’s a strange change but maybe Javier’s looked good in training.

In our team for tonight, we had an unchanged side from last Saturday – so fairly close.

Javier Manquillo – gets a start tonight

Rafa knows this game will be a tough one and he had this to say at his press conference yesterday afternoon.

“We know they will be physical and tough. Burnley will be a different challenge for us.”

“We did well at this stage last year and we know how difficult Burnley will be.” “We approach this game with no complacency.”

“We had control against Huddersfield, which is not just about possession, and we created chances.”

“I hope we can do that again and carry on”

Two in three fans think we can win this game tonight.

No Yedlin, yet he’s on the bench? Minor knock? Weird change that one.

Taller defender to anticipate the up and unders launched by Burnley this evening. Makes sense.

Unless Yedlin has a niggle, I reckon the change has been made due to anticipating aerial bombardment and Yedlin’s positional weakness on the back-post when crosses come in.

Manquillo has been better this season. Can’t do much better than him as PL backup RB outside the top 6 to be fair.

A win tonight would be huge, putting us just another couple of wins and draws away from safety going into the final 10.

Another 2-0 win, but much more hard fought. Almiron to get the goal he didn’t at the weekend.

Don’t get the change… What’s up with that other new FB?

Anyway, come on lads. A big win. A lucky win. An unfair win, vs. 9 players! Any win.

PS. TBH, I think it will be an unlucky draw. Like at Wolves.

Doubt it’s because of height, otherwise Dummett would be in for Ritchie too. It’s his awareness, positioning and communication on crosses that are the slight weaknesses. Gets off the ground well enough.

I do wonder about muto like. No shelvey or even Fernandez if a cb gets injured. Dummett will have to fill in I guess.

Big chance for Manquillo to impress in what must be his best position. Hope he does well, actually think he’s done alright this season when called upon.

Joselu on the bench is my only moan…Muto on for the last 15-20 mins if needed surely would cause more problems.

Yedlin’s defensive lapses might be Rafa’s concern against these? Our wingbacks/FB positions are glaringly the weak link in our squad. Hopefully the confidence of our front three gives Burnley more to worry about than attacking our flanks.

Difficult game tonight Burnley have a good team work ethic.

Hope we play it cagey/softly softly suck them in up to the halfway line then if the moment is right get a ball through for Almiron to chase.

2 -1 to the Toon and Almiron to score.

Geordie Tom Mickleover Littleover area is lovely. We had digs on St Chad’s road in the heart of Normanton which was less nice. We still have friends in the area.

There was a pub on the corner on the main road through Mickleover used to do sausage and chips for a quid and cheap beer and only 5 minutes walk from the campus. Spent many a boozy afternoon in there

Used to use the half moon Littleover too but that was a posh place and a bit pricey for us. Used to take a debit card for payment. Dangerous that

The Last time Hayden and longstaff played two games in quick succession they lost their intensity in the second (vs Spurs)

Would have liked to see them rested for ki and diame and retuned to the starting 11 on Saturday
