It seems that Martin Dubravka is back in form again after a couple of mistakes earlier this year.
But the Slovakian goalkeeper looked more determined than ever on Tuesday night and looked what he is – an outstanding Premier League goalkeeper who we expect to get better under the management of Rafa Benitez.
Although we have taken 13 points and four wins from the last six games we haven’t been particularly lucky.
In the two games we didn’t win at Tottenham and at Wolves we lost to Spurs to a late goal and Wolves equalized after 95 minutes with a goal that looked like Dubravka had been fouled.
So we maybe lost another 3 points there when we could have managed a draw and a win respectively.
Rafa Benitez talks with Martin Dubravka
But that’s water under the Tyne Bridge now, and the only thing that matters is the next fame.
We know that’s true because that’s what Rafa says.
🙂
Martin Dubravka has talked about how we could have had more points:
“We were a little bit unlucky in the previous games and we thought we could have taken a lot more points and clean sheets.”
“However, that’s football as sometimes it’s not always working or going in the right direction for you but I still think we have all been working really hard.”
“We have ideas of what we should be doing on the pitch, and are trying to do that in training and matches.”
“We’re always attempting to do what the gaffer says so it is important that the players have reacted well and it was great that we managed to score two goals.”
“After a bad run at the start of the season, we have really needed these recent victories and clean sheets.”
“It shows that it will not be easy for teams to come to St. James’ Park and break us down, which is essential because it is important to pick up points at home.”
Newcastle now have every opportunity to have a very good run-in to the season.
But once we are safe, we cannot let standards drop.
As soon as we were safe last year with 5 games to play we lost four games on the trot before we took Chelsea apart 3-0 in the final game of the season.
We must keep going this season once we are safe in the league.
There are points to be had and money to be made by finishing high up on the Premier League.
Money that Mike Ashley can then give to Rafa to strengthen the side significantly in the summer.
That would be good.

Comment #82Charlie in the Gallowgate re your last post. Mate to say I’m shocked is an understatement.
I respect your position as one of our die-hard fans and love your match going reports but my god, you’ve stunned me with that last post. If you of all people do not see what Ashley has done to our club then what hope do the rest have? Not a fan but not a hater? This man is suffocating our club. Forget about Rafa spent this that or the other at Liverpool – that’s totally irrelevant in this case.
Ashley is systematically taking the piss out of you, me and every other Newcastle United fan in the world because of his raking in of millions from the club. Theres no disputing this, he’s hiding the figures of this ‘deal’ with SD re the clubs merchandising. We pay THEM to ‘take care’ of the selling and distribution of OUR merch. In return we receive a small fee from them – this is all in the records but hidden to a point, Check out Chris Holt on Twitter, the lad knows his stuff.
Then there’s Strawberry Place, sold for ÂŁ6m to a developer that has ties with who? I’ll leave that for you to guess at. Oh and let’s not forget that this ÂŁ6m HAS NOT BEEN PAYED TO THE CLUB. It’s not in any of the available accounts, it’s still outstanding.
Then there’s the treatment of Rafa – the best manager we’ve had since Sir Bobby, but possibly the best we’ve had since KK in terms of what he’s achieved with such a lack of backing.
And if that doesnt pull the wool from your eyes, ask yourself why NUFC has been slip into multiple companies, almost 30 with Lee Charnley listed as a director. These range from NUFC merch, NUFC advertising, Catering, even the very identity of the clubs logo and badge have been moved to a different company. God only knows what damage this man has done to our club.
Mike Ashley is not selling what he bought. He’s selling a shell of the club and every money-generating income stream has been syphoned off to separate companies – that’s why buyers have walked away in the past and that’s why we are stuck with him unless we see the big picture here. A few wins is superb for the team and the club this season, but nothing has changed. Ashley has to be removed from our club and we need all of our fans to be together on this.

Comment #83It beggars belief and kind of makes you realise as a fan base where we are, when people like Charlie are using other clubs spending and not achieving anything as a guideline to giving our manager foot all and promoting it as a good idea. The prospect of one of these clubs going belly up because of it makes you grateful we’ve got such a parsimonious owner, ”doing a Leeds” can’t really be quoted right now as they may well be back, let’s start saying if it wasn’t for Mikey we could do a Coventry or a Luton, yes let’s be a perpetual yo-yo club scraping survival and sometimes not just so we don’t do a Coventry.
