Rafa Benitez Has This Advice For Salomon Rondon

In retrospect, it would have been worth it to pay the £16.5M release clause in Salomon Rondon’s contract but Mike Ashley balked on paying that for a 29-year-old.

As it turns out he would have been worth every penny and now he still has one year left on his West Brom contract and the Baggies still want £16M for him – but they will not get it this summer.

Rondon will return to West Brom at the end of the season and now Mike Ashley and company have to work out how we can get Salomon somehow for next season.

Salomon Rondon – scoring another goal!

Here’s what Rafa has told the Chronicle today:

“When you have a player doing well, especially a striker scoring goals, everybody gets very excited about the prospects for the future.”

“What I told him is to just concentrate on the next games.”

“Play well and score goals and it will be easier.”

“If you are doing something well it is the best way to promote yourself.”

About 50% think we can win this game tomorrow – maybe Rondon can score his 9th goal of the season for us?

Ray Kennedy played as a striker for Arsenal before Bob Paisley converted him into a midfielder at Liverpool. When Liverpool bought him they intended to use him as a striker but they felt he wasn’t up to it and tried him in midfield – the rest is history including the England caps in that position. There was a classic match in Europe (can’t remember against who) where Liverpool had to play him up front due to striker injuries and he did a fantastic job with Paisley afterwards saying that they had had to revert him to “his former role”.

I think Rondon does like it here but how would he feel if a Chinese team offered him 200k a week and we were only offering 60k a week?

Clearly I’ve missed the announcement that Ashley has sold and that Rafa has signed a new contract. I must have, because a few wins surely wouldnt placate the Newcastle fans who see what Ashley is doing to our club? Now I know where the ‘fickle fans’ label comes from.

Clearly I’ve missed the announcement that gave wayayman the right to sit in judgement over people enjoying their football.

I think I’ll take my lead from Rafa – if he can get support from Ashley sufficient to persuade him to stay, I’ll get behind him and the team.

If Rafa goes, I’ll go off my flipping nut.

In the meantime, excuse me for being happy at the shape of our season and the prospects for the run-in.

This weekend throws up some interesting fixture. Brighton v Huds and Burnley v Palace. These two a draw would be good. Wolves V Cardiff, Wolves win works here, Bmouth V Man City, need Man City win here, if we beat West Ham we go above Bmouth.

Man U play Soton, so Man U Win perfect, with Leicester V Watford a Watford Win works.
Fulham V Chelsea, with Claudio being fired I hope Fulham don’t do that win shite due to manager getting fired, need a Chelsea Win and finally Everton V Liverpool, Liverpool Win works again.

If and it’s a big if, everything above works this could mean we could be one win away from 9th spot.
Of course that means on March 9th weekend everything again goes our way again with results.

    Howay the Toon!!!!!

Only 60k a week .. oh to be a professional footballer.

I suppose you put it into perspective, would you move the family to China for a couple of years for 3 times your salary?

Chinese clubs might offer more money but a move there is like booking your place in the footballing graveyard. At 29 years, Rondon has more to offer in a credible league.

Although rondon has been great for us and could still hit 15 goal mark, would anyone else not prefer us to spend money on a younger striker? Even from Europe, Germany Spain or Italy? Or prefer to it 16m for rondon probably on a 3 year deal? But then again it totally depends on what cashley is planning might see a summer where he splashes the cash like he did for mclaren or like last summer and constant bargains

We could potentially be so close to having a top 8 side of Ashley gave Rafa 80/90 million, buy 4/5 players get rid of a few also, Atsu, Clark, Joselu, darlow, Gayle, Murphy and replace them with youngsters from Europe and England 6/7 squad and first team players would do it for us were really not far off yes we had a poor start to the season but Rafa is always the same second half of the season we play with quality a good full back a top quality midfielder and another top quality forward player to rival or take over Perez is what we’re missing to be a top 8 side potentially two centre midfielders as we play with more of a 311 with Perez behind rondon then Hayden Longstaff Almirón, almiron behind a new striker and then two new faces to partner Longstaff, andefensive rock and a box to box creator, would love us to sign tierny from Celtic
