Rafa Benitez Will Soon Lay Down The Law To Mike Ashley

There’s news today in the Chronicle that Rafa Benitez will want cast-iron assurances from Mike Ashley on funds to strengthen the first team squad before he signs any new contract to stay at the club.

And they need to be cast-iron promises written down in the contract after Mike Ashley told Rafa in May 2017 he could get every last penny the club earned, but he failed to keep his word on that.

Hence Rafa and Newcastle have been fighting relegation for the last two seasons.

Something that the owner is used to but Rafa is not,  and he wants to build a team at Newcastle that can win trophies.

If he cannot get assurances from the owner he will be off in the summer, and who can blame him if he leaves?

Rafa will talk to Mike Ashley and company about a new deal only when the club are safe from relegation, and the 2-0 defeat at West Ham yesterday did not help our survival chances.

Rafa Benitez – wants cast-iron assurances from Mike Ashley

Rafa has thought through some of what he wants to do in the next few transfer windows and which players he wants to be brought in over this summer if he stays.

It’s reported he wants up to five new players to revitalize the squad so at least we can challenge for a top 10 place form the start f next season.

Ashley will point to the acquisition of Miguel Almiron for a potential £20.5M as proof he is willing to spend money.

But Ashley’s very nature in business is to cut corners and costs – he does that with Sports Direct all the time so he can offer the goods at competitive prices – and he’s been very successful doing that.

But that approach doesn’t work in football.

Benitez wants to use a different transfer process that will be streamlined and much quicker in getting players to the club.

And he wants to know in specific terms how much he will be given specifically for this summer in net terms.

Rafa is likely to try to offload players like Aarons, Lazaar, Murphy, Elliot, and Joselu and he will most likely need to let Isaac Hayden go.

Presumably, he can use that money to bring other players into the club.

There will be some negotiations coming from Rafa wants he sits down with the owner – once we are safe.

Rafa’s not willing to mess around with his future.

“I’m not annoyed, I’m disappointed,” said Rafael Benítez, in a choice of words that is unlikely to have made anyone feel better. “We’re still in a relegation battle.”

I feel the same about the Fakeover and the continuously underwhelming ownership.

Why would ashLIE announce that the club has been taken off the market – or is it from a “sauce” (Heinz tomato or HP with bacon butties? I’ll go tomato), and there is nothing in it.

As Jib mentioned somewhat optimistically, perhaps it’s because he’s agreed a package with someone.

    A shorter summary:

    arctoa
It’s baffling that so many of these personalities in the sports media consistently choose to ignore the obvious facts when backing Mike Ashley. His most ardent defenders on these threads would probably still agree that he’s made plenty of mistakes, but many of the talking heads don’t even go that far.

We were slow to start yesterday and never really got into it. A lack of concentration all over, we couldn’t string 3 passes togther or retain the ball.

It was as if they had something else on their minds, a cpl had poor games compared to the last few.

Diame looked like a tank when he came on.

West Ham made five changes apparently from their midweek game.
    Half of the outfield players.
Could we have done the same.
We had equal quality in Diame, Ki, Yedlin, Atsu and Muto.

OK we have ground out points away from home. Those points will hopefully save us.
However, we have just won two games and it could have been a good time for a bold team selection.

West Ham for me tried to injure at least one perhaps two of our young players.
    The free kick against Longstaff.
Both players were short of the ball if that makes sense.
Watched it again on match of the day and can’t say one or the other is at fault.

One of those balls that lands awkwardly between two players. Thought at the time someone was going to get hurt.

    Hopefully Longstaff is ok.

Pointless even mentioning this click bait journalism. Why do we give the Sundays sir to breathe? Ashley will tell us when something has changed. Or he won’t.

Looks to me like the chronicle invented this story last night and have then referenced themselves as a source. Really quite poor

Still disappointed re the result yesterday but I think that’s a sign of the progress we’ve made. We think we should be competing with a solid mid table team away from home. In reality we can but yesterday was not our day.

Was it Martoon called this one a free swing due to the two wins which preceded it? Whoever it was was right on the money.

This time we swing and missed.

Thought Diame was immense when he came on, bossed the midfield, never thought i would ever say this but thought our best 2 players were The Manq & Diame.
Felt a bit sorry for Pereze & Longstaff they took some hefty challenges.
Where is Berreca, has he joined that long list of duds we’ve signed Kenedy,Atsu, Murphy Lazaar Gamez Atsu we are crap at signing full backs and wingers.

So Ashley’s decided that the club’s not going to be sold after he’d (probably the club) spent a six figure sum getting it sale ready? Typical, he’s fallen victim to yet another time waster! As the frog often says, it’s never Ashley’s fault.

However and as we, well apart from Jib’ all know, if Ashley really wanted to sell, he’d sell the club at a sensible market driven rate such as the £300m that PCP reportedly offered. As is, he’s been greedy!

We’re stuck with him, Rafa’ll be off and his successor’ll face yet another cycle of abuse and lies.

Not sure if this has been brought up but did our players look pretty lethargic to you guys?

3 games in the space of a week is very draining and to me it showed.

Manuel pellegrini rested key players for our game and they looked a lot more fresh during the match.

    Just a thought.

    Agree
They just seemed slow to react or did they think that West Ham would sit back and try to hit us on the break where as they seemed to press quite high up the pitch and give Longstaff less time on the ball so as to disrupt any passing game we might have developed early on. That took Almeron out of much of the game.
Personally I blame soapy bubbles getting in their eyes . The FA need to investigate and ban this practice on Health and Safety Grounds.

Just what hold has Ashley over Amanda Staveley, Cook and Kenyon ?
Do they owe him something or is is a private dining club having a laugh ?

Wonder who’s name will be trotted out next selling season.

    West Ham tactics.
Play the ball about in front of our two centre midfielders who sit deep.
Attack with quality down each flank. Big pitch apparently.
Use the good movement of their front players.

Not Rocket Science. However, you do need the players to make it work.

If you are going to sit deep, keep it tight and hit teams on the break it’s no good giving away two goals from set pieces early doors.

Bad day at the office. Build up for Everton starts now.

Toon22 only bored those who already knew the takeover was a pack of lies.

But they weren’t his intended audience, were they – the ones who have silently retreated into blog shadow?

Toon22 put himself up to be shot at, but was proved correct. Apologies are very much due from those who shouted him down. They know who they are.
