Rafa’s New Deal Includes Top Wages – But Clauses To Break His Contract

There’s a report in the Chronicle today from Mark Douglas that Mike Ashley is willing to make Rafa the best-paid manager out of the top six clubs in the Premier League.

Currently, we believe Rafa is on around £6M/year, and it could likely be more than that – but he’s worth every penny he earns at Newcastle.

The contract Rafa signed almost three years ago contained financial penalty clauses if he broke his contract.

And it’s thought to have been one year’s wages – around £6M – if he walked away from Newcastle.

The Chronicle is reporting that to keep Rafa on Tyneside, there wouldn’t be any financial penalty clauses in his new contract.

And there would be break clauses that would allow Rafa to walk away without any financial penalty.

Presumably, that would allow Rafa to walk away if Mike Ashley doesn’t keep his side of the agreements documented in the contract.

Rafa Benitez – will get a top wage to stay as Newcastle manager

It doesn’t appear he has done that over the previous three years with Rafa frustrated at the lack of transfer funds he’s received.

Rafa has never ever broken any contract he has signed in his football career, and we hope that Mike Ashley is more flexible and gives Rafa what he wants to stay at Newcastle.

After all, what the manager wants is to make Newcastle into a top English club with a top team to match.

Why wouldn’t Mike Ashley want the same thing and increase the price he can get for Newcastle United down the road?

And Rafa Benitez knows exactly what he’s doing.

These changes look promising, but as we said, the owner must give Rafa more funds to spend and come up with what he is willing to do on all of Rafa’s specific demands.

Some fans will think it’s dangerous to allow Rafa to walk away from Newcastle without any financial penalty, but it’s a lot better than him not signing a new deal to stay at the club.

And it also seems these contract talks are so crucial that Mike Ashley himself should be part of the discussions with Rafa and Lee Charnley.

They are that important to the future of Newcastle United FC.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Cue outrage at my disgusting and vile comments lol.

    Just saying what I think.

    Let’s dispense with the usual.

You’ll claim outrage, I’ll say not arsed. You’ll be willing to forgive and forget. I’ll ignore you.

Toon , I deduce from your questions @ 75 that you are not totally convinced its off .

The other possibility is your one of Ashley’s men testing to see if there has been a leak from Ashley’s team ..reading the questions from you at 75 you appear to be very concerned ..mmmm.

I still think it’s more likely once we are safe, as long as any potential buyer has already agreed a price.

All this bickering over who has multiple accounts and such is really getting old. Just ignore the person you believe to have multiple accounts if it bothers you so much.

I come on here to talk about Newcastle United not petty things like multiple accounts and all that other name calling crap.

Been delighted with Shelvey and Longstaff, but also now anticipating the return of Diame, Ki and Shelvey to more regular first-team action. Good players with plenty of incentive to perform. That’s 5 good midfielders there. You’ds hope they’d all still be with us next term.
