We put out a poll to gauge what fans thought of maybe selling Jonjo Shelvey to West Ham for £20M in the summer.
Hammers’ manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to take Jonjo back home for a reported £20M.
And since the emergence of Sean Longstaff as a top young attacking midfielder, it could be a good time to sell.
Jonjo is also the highest wage-earner at around £70M/week, and that would ease the wage bill and let Rafa bring in some good players at good wages.
Jonjo Shelvey – should Newcastle sell him this summer?
The other side of the argument is that Shelvey is one of our most creative players – something we have lacked at Newcastle.
And he seems to have done an excellent job in quelling some of his errant behavior on the pitch – to his credit.
With those kinds of arguments in mind three in five fans think we should sell the 27-year-old for £20M.
Rafa could then use that money to bring in some other good players.
Like another top striker and finally, nail down Salomon Rondon to stay at the club for the next few years.
But it will be entirely up to Rafa what happens – as it should be – always assuming he stays on board past June.
What do you think?

Comment #6With Ashley’s stupid model of selling players over 4 or 5 years which the team never sees the benefit of it would be a disaster to sell Shelvey at the moment!!
Would we sign a midfielder of his quality and premiership experience for the 5 million installment we would receive for him ?
If we were allowed to sign an upgrade for him then fair enough but it would more than likely mean we used Longstaff till he was burnt out or sold and Ashley pocketed the money for both players!

Comment #7Ed – numbers? Percentages? Catchy stats? How do we arrive at “majority” of fans?
I think a stat to go along with this would be percentage of fans who are nitwits and slackjawed pm nerds ha ha no offence of course. 😀 😀

Comment #9It appears that Chris Waugh also mentioned that a sale is on. So believe Jib is only saying what he has read.
I wouldn’t put my neck on the line by repeating this. However. Jib is big enough to look after himself. The likes of the non believers will no doubt rejoice if proved incorrect because it’s Jib.
I remember Online guy getting some hits because of what he had heard. Nearly everyone hung onto every word spouted by him then slaughtered him.
Will we ever be sold, doubt it but there is a undying belief that the end of Ashley rule will come about.

Comment #11I think some of you take these take over itk bits of information far too seriously. This is a football blog for all things nufc including gossip and rumour. I’m sure most of it is passed on in good faith but probably originates from very dodgy sources and won’t come to anything but it’s still good fun to read them but don’t put your house on it!

OP trying to wind Welshie and me up puts me in mind of Denis Healey’s remark about being attacked (verbally) by Geoffrey Howe in the House of Commons.
Healey when asked later about it said
“It was like being savaged by a dead sheep”

Comment #15Well Ashley needs north of £140million now to buy this Company as he is required to do so.
Wonder where he could lay his hands on this sort of cash ?
Online retailer Findel’s board unanimously rejected a £140m takeover bid on Monday that was triggered after Mike Ashley’s Sport Direct bought another chunk of shares in the online retailer.
Directors said the mandatory offer “significantly undervalues” the company and told shareholders to take no action, with a formal response to follow once the offer document had been sent.
The tracksuit tycoon’s company was already the biggest investor in Findel and its purchase of six million shares from a single shareholder at 161p apiece took its holding to 36.8pc.
A company is required to make a takeover bid when it has a stake of more than 30pc.
