Benitez May Go After Former Midfield Target This Summer

There’s an article in Fox Sports today on the potential future of Huddersfield Town playmaker Aaron Mooy.

The Australian moved from Melbourne City to Manchester City in 2016 and was on loan at the Terriers during their promotion season in 2016-2017.

Mooy signed permanently for Huddersfield in the summer of 2017 on a three year deal with a possible one-year extension.

Rafa was interested in signing Mooy in both 2016 and the next year so he could be a target for Newcastle this summer.

We need more creativity in the Newcastle side and Mooy can provide that.

With Diame’s contract up in the summer, Isaac Hayden wanting to leave the club and West Ham wanting Jonjo Shelvey for £20M Rafa could shake up the central midfield this summer.

21-year-old Sean Longstaff has come through this season and looks like a really top player of the future.

Fox Sports pundit Simon Hill has said this about the club Mooy, whose wife is Scottish, could join this summer:

“I just wonder whether a return to the Scottish Premier League could be on the cards with maybe a Rangers.

“I’m not saying it would be the best thing for his career but maybe to go to one of the big two, probably not Celtic because they’ve got Tommy Rogic but you never know.”

“I just wonder whether that might be a possibility.

“Or maybe somewhere like a Newcastle. Let’s be honest, he’s not going to go to Man United or Man City or Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea etc.”

“But I think that the next tier down of club is a possibility.”

Mooy’s contract runs out next summer, but the Terriers are likely to want to keep the Australian International at the club for a promotion effort next season.

The question is whether Mooy wants to stay in Yorkshire in the Championship or move on to pastures new.

It’s reported that Rafa wants to bring in five new players in the summer to rejuvenate the squad.

What do you think?

I read that as the reporter is just purely speculating on where Mooy could go with no actual factual basis!

Mooy would actually be quite a good signing for us would just depend on the fee but he is proven quality in the premier league and has the work rate needed in a Benitez system if he is still manager….

Could be Hayden’s replacement if he is defo going in the summer

Oh bless. Sunlun are in the final of ‘The Special Cup’. 🙂 £40m parachute payment in the first division should pretty much guarantee they win everything.
I’m not sure what would be more embarrassing – coming back empty handed or an open top bus tour around the city for winning a cup only available to the bottom two divisions and U21s.

Great potential signing – he usually bosses us around when we play Huddersfield, and I think Huddersfield’s dramatic loss of form coincided with Mooy’s absence through injury, showing them to be a one-man team.

I’d take Mooy, he’s been Huddersfield’s best player for three seasons at least, good going forward and back and a good work rate. Would probably slot into our squad very nicely, given we’re likely to be at least current one CM short by the end of the Summer.
