There have been reports that Newcastle may want to sell Jonjo Shelvey but whether that’s true or not we don’t know.
Rafa certainly knows that Jonjo is a skilled attacking player who has calmed down this season on the pitch.
The discussion was brought up by West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini keen to take the 27-year-old back home to London.
Jonjo has been missing for a couple of months with that thigh injury and he came on and his substitution was one of the things that changed the game in our favor yesterday against Everton.
Jonjo looked determined and was spraying his passes all around and taking the corners as he replaced Ki after 79 minutes.
It was a good performance from the England International and that appearance will have done him the world of good.
Jonjo Shelvey – in the thick of it yesterday
And it seems the reports that he may be leaving Newcastle this summer have struck a chord with Jonjo; he had this to say on nufcTV after the game:
“People have been saying my future is finished and I’ve got no career so it was just to shut people up really.”
“Those who have said I’ve not got a future at the club – they can watch that performance and eat their words now.”
“When I was warming up I was watching the game and thinking where I could put the ball in behind them.”
“I thought that was the key in getting back into the game.” “And As soon as we got to 2-2 I thought we could win it.”
“At half time there was more anger from the players – the manager as usual was very calm and collected.”
“I’m glad to be back and helping the team out.”
It is very clear from the interview that Jonjo loves it at Newcastle and has no thoughts whatsoever about leaving the club this summer.
Good stuff from Jonjo both on the field and in his nufcTV interview yesterday.
It’s good to have him back and Jonjo could be a key player in the final 8 games of the season with Sean Longstaff out injured.
We need 11 points from the final 8 games to beat last season’s total of 44 points.
We can do it!
