Mohammed Diame has been playing some of his best football over the last 15 months at Newcastle until he lost his place because of injury.
His three-year contract is up in the summer and whether or not the automatic clause is triggered or not – it looks like the club will offer him a one-year extension to his contract.
The one-year extension will be triggered automatically after 24 starts this season and he already has made 21 starts with 8 games to go.
But Mo wants a two-year deal, and that will make him 34 in June 2021.
Maybe that will be the time the former Senegal International decides to retire.

When a player as experienced as Diame becomes available as a free agent, clubs become interested.
There’s new today in the Chronicle that clubs in Turkey (in particular), as well as in Spain and Italy are interested in signing Mo to a two-year deal.
But he wants to stay on Tyneside, and we have to assume Rafa wants him signed for two more years.
But it will be Mike Ashley who is the problem – he doesn’t like to pay high wages to the older players.
But Mo still has a job he can do at Newcastle with his physical play in central midfield, and he gives Rafa something different – another option.
We would like to see Mo offered a two-year deal this summer.
Not sure that he will be.
