Ashley Must Do Everything Possible To Keep Rafa

There was surprising news today in France that Newcastle are interested in current Lyon manager Bruno Genesio and they have been in contact with his agent Pini Zahavi.

But 52-year-old Genesio isn’t that keen to join Newcastle, and Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas is eager to keep his manager at Lyon.

Ashley wants to sign Rafa to a long term deal otherwise there will a revolt from the Newcastle fan base in the summer.

But the news that Ashley is willing to improve the Youth Academy with some investment for next season and that he has also agreed to bring in another expensive recruit (similar to Miguel Almiron) in the upcoming transfer window is good news.

Mike Ashley – must keep Rafa at Newcastle

Wages have never been a problem with Rafa, but Ashley has nevertheless offered him a wage packet that will see him one of the highest paid managers in the Premier League.

Rafa wants improvements made to the Training Ground at Benton but no news on that yet, and whether Ashley will invest in that immediately.

It’s proper planning to at least understand which managers may be available if Rafa walks in the summer.

But Mike Ashley must keep Rafa on Tyneside – hopefully with at least a five-year new deal this summer.

The consequences of Newcastle United losing Rafa Benitez would be unimaginable.

Rafa was a last throw of the dice, they weren’t interested in Remi Garde, FDR or Tomas Tuchel if that was ever on the cards anyway. Unfortunately we’ll be landed with a guy with no aspirations other than to restore a reputation and pick up a pay check.

I really don’t think Charnley knows any managers that haven’t been in the premierleague so I expect someone familiar unless a huge household name from abroad wants the job. A lot of the foreign managers take time to adapt and I doubt Ashley would want to risk a Remi Garde. They’d rather a Allardyce type than take a risk.

Oh No here we go again ! The rumour mill has started. Lets wait and see. Surely even Fat Lad isn’t that stupid enough to chuck it all away after emptying his piggy bank and buying Miggy.
Rafa stand your ground . He needs you otherwise it will be back on shit street again for him.

    ———————–Rondon
    ————————-Perez
    Almiron—Shelvey—Hayden—Ritchie
    Dummett–Lejuene–Fernandez–Yedlin
    ———————-Dubravka

I think Dummett is more likely to play the ball up the line quickly and be more defensively sound behind Almiron. Ritchie on the right does what he does and the rest pick themselves. I just hope we do not get over run in midfield, which is a reoccurring weakness.

Not a chance, he knows what we think of him and what he’s up against, he couldn’t get out quick enough last time. He can’t spend the season hiding in the dugout.

So, in recent weeks we’ve seen the club revamping the coaching structure at the Academy, dropping Beardsley and Dave Watson and promoting Ben Dawson, as well as beginning a formal recruitment process for a number of other coaching and support roles, including a permanent loans officer.

We’ve also seen the club finally land one of Rafa’s number one transfer choices, even though there was a large risk in recruiting from the MLS.

I guess the only thing left to reassure Rafa about would be improvements to the club infrastructure – namely the training ground and academy facilities. These are a bit more difficult as, although there have been plans in place for years, they may not have been updated since then and may not anyway fit Rafa’s specification.

I think there has to be at least the beginnings of a conversation there, however, with a roadmap to be agreed on progress for the future.

Obviously there’s always the possibility of the club doing a U-turn after Rafa has signed and reverting to type, but I think reaching an agreement of any kind requires faith and trust in equal measure from both parties. I think we’ll see relatively soon if Rafa and Ashley are prepared to place these in each other. I think they will be.

According to google sports Bournemouth line up as a 4-4-2 except against Man City where they went 5-4-1. They must switch to s 4-4-1-1 to confuse the opposition and to compensate for an out of form Callum Wilson who scored a spectacular volley before limping off and then scoring and assisting on his return six weeks later 😮

Players liked Pardew as I recall. Ashley had near enough the whole lot of them mesmerized; manager, coaches, players. Fans were far from convinced though, and the whole facade came tumbling down after Pardew left. Rafa has rebuilt it, properly, and Ashley is seemingly too much of a dickhead to just let him get on with it and bring happiness and reward to all concerned, including himself. How utterly bizarre.

@33, I’m fairly certain under KK’s first season in the Prem with us we played 4-4-2, with Beardsley preferred behind Andy Cole (in ‘the hole’ as we knew it then). Back then we called it 4-4-2, but in modern terms it would be referred to as 4-4-1-1. The difference between the 2? None at all really, other than a needless extra digit and hyphen.

    Jib,
It would be down as a 4’4-1-1 which they played against Wolves. Simply Google Bournemouth results and it will give you all the formations and line ups. Hopefully you can get that right.

    Two big ‘IF’S….

If ….Rafa does not sign a new contract

    And

    If…..Cardiff are relegated

Neil Warnock will be at the top of Ash managers list.

I was told this in December.

Surely there is a significant difference. 442 is, for example, Perez off Rondon’s shoulder, and 4411 is when he’s in the hole behind working between the lines. One is two central strikers, the other one striker and an attacking central mid.
