Fernandez And Diame Start Against The Cherries

Rafa Benitez has just announced the Newcastle team he will start against the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium this afternoon.

And Mo Diame has come into the starting eleven in place of Ki for his 22nd start this season – Mo must have been impressive in training.

It also looks like Rafa will play a back four with Federico Fernandez coming in for the injured Jamaal Lascelles.

Fans are fairly confident we can get the win with 60% positive about getting all 3 points.

We shall see – but another win would be tremendous.

Think I saw Rafa Benitez sneak a fist pump. Just a tiny one. Maybe even a cheeky smile.

Ritchie is a real enigma. He has many positives (work rate etc.) and several significant negatives (lack of passing to Almiron, inconsistency in crossing).
I say he is a player who is not particularly suited to any position in the style we play. But he still makes a contribution and adds value.
In summary, if we really need a left wingback or a wide player then we should be looking at players better than Ritchie in that position

Think shelvey has to start next game as he made a difference when he came on!

Even if we had lost, I would’ve said we deserved a draw at least. Fernandez did alright, a couple minor errors, really, that he paid for.

Ritchie was another roundly criticised, unfairly. He was involved in most attacks, wasn’t losing the ball, was trying to find openings. Conditions were terrible, no one on the pitch was crossing well!

It was a fighting display, two equally good (or bad) teams cancelling each other out.

To a fair observer, no one deserved to lose, I think.

    Manx

I know he was and fair enough you have to take into account rustiness, but today he was shite in everything he did.

    My preferred back 5 is

    __________Schar__Lascelles__Lejeune
    Yedlin_______________________________Dummett

Would really like to see that.

Dummett quicker than Ritchie, positioning and defensive instinct better, much better tackler, much better in the air and whilst Ritchie is overrated for his delivery Dummett is underrated. Plus Ritchie has zero understanding with Almrion.

The officials (FA, EPL, Refs Club) really hate us.

It makes me think of Millwall in the 80s, “Everyone hates us and we don’t care”.

Disgusting as usual fro mike dean, we shouldn’t expect anything less. Will the league do anything about it? Of course not.

Still, give me a 2-2 at 3pm, I’d have taken it.

We should stay up now barring a complete disaster but we can’t keep going through this every season. Come on Cashley back your magician of a manager now and spend a few bob so we can finish comfortably mid table at least next season and have a crack at the League Cup and FA Cup. If not please sell up and invest the money in the ailing High Street

In first half, only saw a quick replay but Daniels on yedlin could have been a pen as it seems there was contact on the ball. Difficult to call though so can give the benefit of the doubt to Dean.

Lerma could have seen red but I think yellow was justified. He should have got a second yellow a couple times after like.

If he gives them a pen, rondon should have got one for that tug.

Back pass, clear as day missed. You explain a back pass to someone and you give this example to make it clear. Missing that is very amateurish or it is just pure bias. Take your pick.

I have to say apart from the West Ham game in the last 4 or 5 games I have been really ENTERTAINED!

Lots of nice little passing moves and we are having a go against teams sometimes the quality isn’t there but we have been enjoyable to watch for a good bit now !

Sometimes I do wish Benitez would make subs earlier as at 1 each we should have went on to win it but a point is good considering Burnley’s result!

Atsu and shelvey did well too. Though diame and hayden did fantastic in the centre midfield. Alot of tough calls for rafa to make at arsenal.

Almiron probably had his worse game for us. I think he’s going to take time to adapt and will be better next season.

Muto got into very promising positions too. Rondon partnering Atsu and Muto will be interesting.

First time in a long time I’m filled with optimism, the team looks strong the bench looks strong and each and every player is improving. Long may it continue.

Days of old we would of lost this game 3-1, something has changed. Not since the 90’s/00’s have I watched a game thinking we will win this, now its most games.

Give Rafa the contract he wants, Invest in the Stadium and training facilities and we will only improve

HWA Sorry mate but I would prefer Manky instead of Yedlin. Your right with Dummett. Must play Ritchie on the left in front of him. Almiron then can have a roving role and keep looking for gaps and space.

Fernandez was poor today but as mentioned on here, first game in ages and with Dummett and Lejeune as a three – he’ll get back to form soon enough – thought it was a bit of a huff and puff game but mostly due to terrible conditions – I went for a draw pre-game (given our away record), 3 points would have been better obviously

Can see us finishing a point better off than last season, looking at remaining fixtures

    Arsenal (a) – L
    Palace (h) – W
    Leicester (a) – L
    Southampton (h) – W
    Brighton (a) – D
    Liverpool (h) – L
    Fulham (a) – W

45pts will likely only be good for 12th this season.

    Ronaldo

Commentators always say it about him. Very strange. His delivery was much better when he played RWF in a 4-2-3-1. Perhaps Ritchie should get back to challenging further up field, maybe Perez’ spot.

hasty saying sell him earlier, but next season he shouldn’t bean automatic starter if we’re going to advance. Squad utility player.
