Rafa Benitez made three changes to the side for the game this afternoon at Bournemouth with Paul Dummett, Federico Fernandez and Mohamed Diame coming into the starting eleven.
Local lad Paul Dummett captained Newcastle with Lascelles out with a knee problem.
Fernandez came in for the suspended Fabian Schar and Mo Diame was preferred to Ki Sung-yueng in midfield.
Newcastle drew 2-2 at the Vitality Stadium this afternoon with a very late goal from Matt Ritchie after Newcastle had gone ahead just before half time through Salomon Rondon.
The game was close in the first half and Ryan Fraser had a chance when he hit the post after King had played him in.
Just before half time, Miguel Almiron made a break forward and the Paraguayan was brought down by Jordon Ibe 25 yards out.
Matt Ritchie scored his 3rd goal of the season
And it was Rondon who put Newcastle ahead with a stunning free-kick for his 10th goal of the season and 9 of them in the Premier League.
It was 1-0 at the break after a fairly even first half.
But then just 4 minutes into the second half referee Mike Dean awarded a penalty from a corner – out of nowhere – presumable for a foul that you see at almost every corner kick these days in the Premier League.
It looked like Fernendez put his arms on the shoulders of Nathan Ake and Dean pointed immediately to the spot.
Another strange decision by Mike Dean against Newcastle.
There has to be some parity with the refereeing in the Premier League.
That put the Cherries right back in the game.
King scored from the resulting penalty when he sent Dubravka the wrong way and then after 81 minutes, Newcastle conceded a poor goal.
The ball was knocked around in the penalty area with Newcastle defenders running all over the place and ball came out to King who hit a beautiful sht past Dubeavka to put the home side 2-1 ahead.
But then four minutes into stoppage time it was Matt Richie who scored with a stunning left-foot volley against his former club.
And that draw puts Newcastle onto 35 points and one point closer to safety.
It also breaks a run of six successive away defeats so that was good.
But Rafa will not be happy that’s the third game running that we have conceded two goals.
