Slovakian international goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is proving he is proving to be one of Newcastle’s best buys at just £4M from Sparta Prague last summer.
Martin came on loan in January last year and was superb in the run-in to the league that saw us amas 44 points and 10th place.
And Dubravka has continued his excellent form this year and made one or two mistakes earlier this year.
But all goalkeepers make mistakes, and Rafa has today emphasized how very few mistakes the 30-year-old has made at the club.
Martin Dubravka – in action for Newcastle
Rafa was asked in the Chronicle if interest in Dubravka from some top teams has surprised him:
“No, because he’s a good keeper and somebody you can trust.”
“Obviously they (Juventus) can talk about him but any team could see him as a good keeper.”
“The other day he made a mistake but we are talking about one year here and he’s not made too many mistakes.”
“He has given us a lot of points with his saves.” “Everybody can see Martin is a good goalkeeper.”
“Agents have to do their jobs, but Martin is OK.”
“For me, he is fully concentrated on his job, and it’s like when people ask me about players like Salomon Rondon.”
“Players may finish contracts and will have to go back.” “But in this case, Martin still has a contract here.”
“And because he is doing well people start talking about them so that is good news for us.”
“But the best way for the player to carry on with good publicity is to do your job properly.”
“So it’s making saves or scoring goals for us for others.”
Those are good and wise words from the boss.
Dubravka’s agent Zika will try to get Martin a new improved contract for him at Newcastle this summer.
And as Rafa says – he’s only doing his job and s helped by clubs like Juventus, Arsenal and other PL clubs interested in the goalkeeper.
Martin is very reliable for Newcastle, and over the course of a season, his excellent play means points on the board for Newcastle.
He is also desperate to improve as a goalkeeper under Rafa’s guidance, and he wants to stay on Tyneside, presumably on a new improved contract.
Sounds good to us.
Dubravka has played 43 games for Newcastle in total – including all 31 Premier League games this season.
He really is a top goalkeeper.

Comment #1Briefly read back over the past few days posts and saw Jib’s link to the Jonathan Pie rant video below. Not sure if you lads find it as humorous as I did or is it just all too painfully true…?

Comment #2Bloody hell, please don’t post Brexit stuff on here! It’s the one place I come to online to avoid that nonsense. I think Ed has made it quite clear that we’re supposed to talk about football here with religion and politics (and the like) not welcome.
chicousa – not having a go at you personally mate, just wanting to remind people about Ed’s wishes. Cheers 🙂

Most bloggers are showing some restraint about the “B” subject.
Will it last – hopefully – if so it will also mean partisan venomous hatred is also kept away.
I get the sense that some bloggers want to discuss the “B” subject and have the thoughts of our noble King Henry V words “I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips, Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot:”
Oh shyte I’ve done it now – scrub the above – substitute for “chomping at the bit to say something”.
