Salomon Rondon continued his excellent form during the International break scoring the first goal in Venezuela’s huge 3-1 win over Argentina, who had Lionel Messi back in the side.
They were then beaten 2-1 in a friendly against Catalonia a couple of days ago.
The on-loan Newcastle striker is now back training with the first team as Rafa Benitez prepares the team for a tough game at the Emirates on Monday night.
Salomon Rondon – I have to keep scoring
Rondon has talked about what his job is at Newcastle – scoring goals.
The Newcastle number 9 had this to say today as reported in the Shields Gazette:
“The gaffer brought me here to help the team and score goals.”
“At the moment I have 10 goals in all competitions and I have to carry on, keep scoring.”
“I never set a target, just try to help the team,”
“That’s the main point for me. I try to hold the ball, help my team-mates, and after, score more goals.”
“At the moment I’m doing really well. I have to keep going.”
“We equalized in the last minute of the (last) game – it was fantastic.”
“We played really well and never gave up. We tried to score, and we did. It was important to us. It was a massive point.”
“You have to carry on. The next game against Arsenal, we know it’s a difficult game, but we have to do exactly the same.”
“We have to forget the table and go step by step.” “We know they are strong at their stadium. We’re doing really well.”
“We have to carry on that performance and try to get some points there.”
It looks like we survived this International break without picking up any injuries so Rafa should have almost a full squad to choose from for Monday night’s game.
Only Sean Longstaff is not available.
And by Monday we will know how some of the other teams close by us in the league have done in their games.
Rafa will hold his press conference for the game early tomorrow afternoon.

Comment #2I would be tempted to keep Rondon on the bench against Arsenal to begin with hes played a lot of football recently and this could be a game where we get beat no matter how well we play! Also he could be running about the pitch not seeing a lot of the ball which could result in injury!Same with Almiron can always bring them on 2nd half when the game has slowed down a bit!
Atsu , Perez and Muto could be the front 3 which would have plenty of pace and workrate to close down Arsenal and stop them passing it out from the back as easily

Comment #3‘Only Longstaff isn’t available’…?
What about Schar? – serves 2nd match of a 2-game suspension.
As for Ashley and Rafa, the owner is too busy playing department store chain monopoly just now to attend to urgent Toon matters.
