In his press conference yesterday with the local journalists Rafa Benitez seemed surprised when he was told Ayoze Perez had said in an interview in Spain during the International break that he may be ready to leave Newcastle in the summer.
Ayoze had talked about how he thought things moved in five-year cycles; he has been at the club five years this summer.
The 25-year-old has talked before about maybe finishing his career in Spain, but he still has two years left on his contract at Newcastle.
We would be surprised if Perez leaves the club this summer – if Rafa is still at the club.
Ayoze Perez – he just scored another goal
This is what Rafa said about this in his press conference yesterday:
“He’s someone you can see who is training well and is focused.”
“When we talk about the future, we talk about doing things here.”
“He’s not telling me he wants to go – he’s focused here. If he can see the team is doing well, I think he will be happy.”
“Monday will be a tough game,”
“If you see Arsenal, they’re doing really well. “We have 35 points at the moment. You never know. “
“We have to carry on, and the next game has to be like a final for us. We don’t worry about others.”
“You need a bit of luck sometimes. We can compete against anyone because we have confidence in ourselves, so I think we can do it.”
It would not be surprising if Rafa Benitez decides to leave Newcastle that Perez tries to force a move to back to Spain.
But if Rafa does leave the club this summer, all bets are off.
What will happen with Newcastle we don’t know, but the club will never get as good a manager as Mr. Benitez.
Hopefully, Mike Ashley will get the boss to stay for maybe as many as another five years.
Hope so – and then we can all celebrate.
