Newcastle May Try To Unload Older Players This Summer

There’s a report in the Mirror today that Newcastle may try to move Matt Richie out this summer with just two years left on his contract,.

It’s interesting that the same news was being touted last year before the summer transfer window that Matt may be leaving Newcastle.

In that case, recently relegated Stoke City had made a £15M bid for Ritchie and offered him good wages in an attempt to get him to drop down one division to the Championship.

That’s something he did in the summer of 2016 when he agreed to join Newcastle from Bournemouth.

Matt Ritchie – for sale this summer?

Rafa wanted Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace if Ritchie left the club, but he was priced out of a deal with the London club wanting  £30M for the former Newcastle winger.

This summer it seems that Newcastle want to sell him to get something for him before his contract runs out in two years – with Matt turning 30 in September.

Mo Diame may also be on his way this summer with Mo wanting a two-year deal and Newcastle likely to offer him just a one year deal at the end of his current contract.

Mo will turn 32 in June.

And it’s possible Mike Ashley will not bother to bring back Salomon Rondon permanently in the summer with the Venezuelan turning 30 in September and the Baggies wanting  £16M for him.

But Newcastle (Mike Ashley) can overdo it too, and all three players still have something to offer Newcastle for at least the next two or three years.

More so with Matt Ritchie and Salomon Rondon.

We don’t want players to be cast aside when they get older just becasue of their age – when they are still playing at the top of their game.

What do you think?

Neil Warnock is absolutely steaming. Not only does he think that Chelsea should be down to 10 men, he’s quite rightly fuming at that equaliser.

    How offside was Azpilicueta Neil?

‘TWO @:”£#NG YARDS!’ he screams at the officials time and again.

    He’s right as well.

VAR coming in a little too late for Cardiff. Can’t stand Warnock, but he’s got every right to be annoyed today. His post match interview is going to be even more entertaining than this game.

Why is Warnock shouting at Sarri? He didn’t give the offside and if a decision like that had gone in Cardiff’s favour he’d be laughing about it. Shout at the officials not the opposition manager.

Wish I’d made the drive up to Boston this weekend for NBC’s fan fest Premier League coverage. I used to live not far from Fenway when I was in Massachusetts so it would have been nice to have a day out there. Looks like a laugh and the Premier League have sent over free team merchandise to give away. Is anyone else in the States watching on NBC this weekend?

Lack of Toon shirts in the crowd is a shame, but that’s probably because of our game being on a Monday this week.

There are two ways this crushing blow will affect cardiff. They will either accept defeat and abandon the fight or, defiantly, they will look at their fixture list and see that their fate is still in their own hands and battle for every remaining point. Either way, I don’t really give a monkeys. I’d say it would take an unmitigated distaterous collapse if we went down now. So, roll on tomorrow.

What an entertaining morning of football so far. Fights in the Old Firm game, shocking decisions in the Cardiff game, extra time (hopefully) for the Mackems and a potentially great game between Liverpool and Spurs to come. Plus games every day next week (except Thursday), which makes up for the lack of club football this past two weeks.

I think we’re safe now. 7 points clear if Cardiff (8 if you count goal difference) and their run in is mental. All big 6 clubs or teams below us, so even if they pick up points they do us a favour.

Jimmy – I agree, but being a Newcastle supporter I don’t assume anything. I’ll believe we’re safe when it’s mathematically true. Our goal difference is definitely a major plus in combination with Cardiff’s remaining fixtures. Sometimes weird things happen in this wonderful game, but I can’t see Cardiff staying up after today’s defeat.

Mike Ashley is starting to look like a bit of a knacker.
He got lucky when he made 2 billion out of SD.
    Right place, right time.
Everything else has turned to rats doo doo.

Halifax Bank shares. Had to buy them as they became very cheap. They were cheap for a reason. They were going out of business.
Ditto re House of Fraser and Debs.

posada – or alternatively he could keep the club as a guaranteed source of income thanks to all of that lovely Premier League money? If we get relegated then he’d see us as another drain on his ‘empire’.

    Yeah that is a worry.
If we finnish 12th each year he could take about 80M a year out.

Only thing is he needs Rafa for that. Rafa I don’t think will go along with it. He will want assurances that he will be supported.

With another stooge manager we will get relegated. However, he’s not the brightest so he may well try it.
Is Pardew still out of work.
