Guess What Pundit Predicts For Newcastle Game – After 9 Successive Arsenal Home League Wins?

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson doesn’t see any joy for Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Arsenal have been in good form for months at home in the league and Merson believes we will lose 3-1.

One of the things we are looking for tonight is a tightening up of our defense.

Newcastle have conceded two goals in each of the previous three games so a 3-1 defeat would not be good for us.

But our lads have nothing to lose with the vast majority of pundits expecting an Arsenal win.

Arsenal have won their last 9 Premier League games at home since drawing with Wolves 1-1 at the Emirates back on 11th November.

Going with recent results first – they have beaten Manchester United (2-0), Bournemouth (5-1), Southampton (2-0), Cardiff City (2-1), Chelsea (2-0), Fulham (4-1), Burnley (3-1), Huddersfield (1-0), and Tottenham (4-2).

So maybe it’s time for Arsenal to lose?

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson – no surprises tonight

Here’s what Paul Merson has said about the game:

Newcastle are a dangerous side; they’ve been really good recently, are hard to beat and have a couple of match-winners in their team.”

“But these are the kind of matches Arsenal finish off.”

“If Liverpool had Arsenal’s remaining fixtures they would win the league.”

“But you just know that Arsenal won’t win all of these games and that’s why they are not a shoo-in for the top four.”

Prediction: 3-1

Let’s hope we can upset the apple cart in north London tonight.

Two out of the three home games are very winnable plus a win and a couple of draws away should be well within the teams possibility on current form.

I remember just before Xmas 2001
A Wednesday night match at Highbury
Graham Poll sent off Ray Parlour (2 yellows)
and Craig Bellamy (straight red for chinning
    Ashley Cole)

    1 – 3 Shearer, Robert , OBrien

We’ll be up for this. Senior side, great stadium. Bit different to visiting West Ham, which was always gonna be a bit hum drum. But Newcastle, away, at Arsenal, that is a grand football occasion. Not sure we’ll come away with anything, but we will put in a shift.

Last time (and only time) I saw us play at Arsenal was in 1994/5, won 3-2, Pedro scored the first but got given as an og, Pedro penalty then Ruel Fox made it 1-3. Then (as is always the case with us) squeaky bum time though as Wrighty scored in the last minute or so. It was a Sunday evening ko and next day had to be at work for 8am, needless to say not much work was done that day (I worked in Farringdon, lived in Cricklewood).

I can’t decide if we’ll lose 4-0 or sneak a 1-1 draw. (Depends if I’ve remembered to take my tablets).

    Cracking link, that Micky

Was that Mark Hottiger flying down our right in the lead-up to the Beardsley goal? Or Barry Venison maybe?

Can’t remember so many jammy goals in a game – Beardsley big deflection, soft penalty award on Cole, ball ricocheting around for their first, off the bar then off a defender for our third then off the post and off Pav’s back for their second. Bit of a crazy match.

Rob, my recollection of the actual circumstances are weirdly a tad fuddled – this was the 90s….

I was sat with Arse fans – in the days when you could buy tickets at the hot dog stall outside the ground.

Still celebrated all the goals (my mate was an Arse fan) mind you, no grief off the gadgees sat around me – I did keep it a bit muted…

Rafa’s thinking for tonight will be influenced
by the fact that we have Crystal Palace at
SJP in just 5 days – theoretically a much more
    winnable game.

Honestly think our set up might just hamper Arsenal, They won’t enjoy Perez, Almiron and Rondon pressing high either..
Ultimately, they probably have too much quality in the end, Torrieira missing will be big for them though and I don’t think their centrehalves enjoy physicality all that much! More so than usual this just might be a game of tactics but i think it’ll be closer than pundits are predicting.
Reckon we’ll see Almiron score his first goal!

What does Merson know about predicting results? You lot are a right bunch of pessimists, I’m going to go for 3-0 to the Toon. A goal a piece for the three amigos. Howay the lads!!

Still think a scrappy late goal might win it for us? Depends on the defence keeping hold of PEA and Lacazette.

Luke Edwards reporting Rafa to stay is almost done… he usually airs on the negative side of things too does Luke!
Massive overhaul in the summer of players, Ritchie and Hayden wanting to move south, Shelvey might move on, Joselu to china, Diames contract, Rondon and Kenedy loans ending, Gayle and Murphy back etc its going to be 1 busy summer
