Rafa Benitez Keeps It Very Simple At Newcastle

Whether we like it or not the game last night in north London is behind us, and we have to look forward.

The next game is a more winnable game at home to Crystal Place on Saturday afternoon.

Palace have been coming into some form and beat Huddersfield Town last Saturday to officially see the Terriers relegated after two seasons in England’s top division.

But Rafa, as always, is only looking forward to the next game and will prepare his players for what is likely to be a close game at St. James’ on Saturday afternoon.

Rafa Benitez – does he really need to pray?

This is what Rafa has said as reported in the Shields Gazette today:

“You can talk about lots of things, but I would prefer to be where we are and have the points on the table. “

“After that, we have to try to get three points in the next game, and that’s it.”

“For us, every game is a final. I said that before. For us, the next game is the most important – it’s one game at a time.”

“We have to be sure we’re focused. We have to be confident when we approach the game and try to win. After, we’ll see what happens with the other teams.”

“Every game will be difficult. I have always said that maybe the last game against Fulham could be the one that makes the difference.”

“Hopefully not, but we have to keep going with that in our mind. “We just have to believe we can get the points, that’s it.”

The only thing that matters now is the game at home against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.

We need to win this game.

Last night was horrible. The lack of a telling pass was starkly evident. Hopefully we can turn things on Saturday, without KI, Shelvey and Schar we look woefully lacking and ain,t it strange how we miss Sean Longstaff, kind of shows the impact he had. I don,t know if Rafa was holding back with Saturdays game in his mind, but surely Shelvey could have had at least 45 minutes. As they say time will tell. Here’s hoping

Palace will fancy their chances, as many teams have at SJP. They are a naturally attacking team and will come on the front foot. There’s going to be plenty of space to attack behind them.

Hut down Zaha and Townsend and tou’ve pretty much stopped them. I think 5 at the back will suit that well, allowing us to double up on their wide men in defence and run away from them when in possession, neither are good at tracking back.

Should be an open, entertaining game and I think we’ll win by the odd goal in maybe as many as 5.

I don’t think long throws should be allowed.
When the throw in was invented you could not throw a heavy casey any distance.
It was meant to be simply a way to re start play. Not something akin to a corner kick.

Supermac had a long one in the seventies. His throw ins had some distance on them as well.
Not the same as now though. High and looped in. Not at pace and low.

    Almiron

He was without support last night.
Did not seem to know what to do when he got the ball. The great Bobby Moore said the key to football was this – knowing what you are going to do with the ball before you get it.
That’s what I used to do wrong. Even when I played fives with my mates later in life. By the time I made my mind up someone had taken it off me.
Looked concerned every time. His mind seemed to be in over drive. Am I sticking to the game plan. Stiffled ?
Also, when Kenedy comes on his body language says great someone I can actually play with.
Not that he actually has been of late.

I’d bring in sin-bins for professional fouls and deliberate hand balls. Also for diving and dissent. 10 minutes off the pitch and it counts as a yellow so another yellow would see them off the field permanently.

    Whoop! Whoop!

What will Deano do to celebrate it?

Will we have a Sky Sports special looking back at his greatest reds? Maybe featuring Halford, Ellery etc

Fulham down, Man U losing their third in a row. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s honeymoon appears to be well and truly over, he’s rolled over to gaze lovingly at his blushing bride and found Paul Pogba glaring furiously back at him.

Anyone who saw Ritchie not passing to Almiron has bloody good eyes cos I thought Ritchie wasn’t passing to ANYONE in a black and white shirt! In fact nobody was passing to a black and white shirt!
That was one of the most frustrating games I’ve ever watched! We were pathetic! But I seem to remember we were also poor last time we had an extended break in Spain!
