Newcastle went down to a 2-0 defeat to the Gunners last night at the Emirates.
It was our 15th defeat in our 32 league matches.
We now have six games to play and the good news is that we have to play only Liverpool – at home on 4 May – of the top six English clubs.
Maybe it wasn’t the best time to ask Rafa about his Newcastle future after the Telegraph (Luke Edwards) had a report out yesterday that Rafa was almost certain to stay at Newcastle.
Rafa Benitez – smiling in the dugout before the game last night
When asked about his Newcastle future this is what Rafa told the Chronicle:
“Nothing has changed.”
“We are exactly the same as we were some days ago.” “We are in the same position, the same situation.”
“I am just trying to concentrate on Crystal Palace.
“People can talk about things, and that is normal in football.”
“Players, managers, whatever.”
“The only thing I can do now is to try to do the job properly and stay in the Premier League.”
What we don’t want to happen is for the news about Rafa potentially staying at Newcastle to affect our results negatively in the last six games.
It’s vital that we can get a win on Saturday at home to an in-form Crystal Palace side.
That’s really the only thing that matters at the moment: it’s the only thing that matters to Rafa,

Comment #1I dont see how Rafa can win here with Ash and any contract he signs.
Ash does not spend money unless it is a shopping chain, Rafa wants upgrades throughout the club, players, facilities, full control of transfers.
Even if ash accepts these conditions and Rafa signs, what can Rafa do to force his hand if he does not stick to these conditions. Ash will just hide the money stating the helicopter service/mot has cost him millions !
Poor performance last night and the likes of Diame, Yedders and Kenedy looked woeful.
Lascelles totally at blame for second goal.
Need three points on Saturday and I think we might see Shelvey for Diame.

Comment #2Well I managed to stay awake (after a few bevvies and the off game of darts), until 5 minutes before the game and promptly fell asleep.
Possibly the best choice looking at the reports from last night.
Ah well, onward and upward, bring on Saturday.
If Citeh beat Fulham on Wednesday, will Fulham be down too?
