Local lad Paul Dummett is back in the starting lineup on Tyneside, and he has talked today on nufcTV about the Newcastle fans.
On Monday night at the Emirates Newcastle again had some fantastic support from our fans but the team did not play well, and we went down 2-0.
The form of Newcastle was the disappointing thing in that game, and the 2-0 scoreline could have been worse.
Newcastle now have a tough game against Crystal Palace on Saturday at St. James’ Park, and we can make it six successive home wins.
Paul Dummett with manager Rafa Benitez
This is what Dummett has said to nufcTV today:
“The support has been amazing all season, home and away.” “They travel away brilliantly.”
“We always take our biggest allocation, and I can’t thank them for their support enough.”
“It was a pity we couldn’t get the three points for them traveling all that way on a Monday night.”
“Hopefully we can get the next win in the Premier League as soon as possible to make us safe.”
“We have been in good form with the wins we’ve had.”
“We know it will be a difficult game (against Palace) as they have some good players but we’ll be ready.”
“We had a rest, but we will work hard in training.”
“Hopefully we can get that sixth win and make ourselves safe in the Premier League .
“Then we will try to get other results and try to push on and finish strongly like we did last season.”
Paul has appeared 20 times in the Premier League this season and in total has played 162 games with 3 goals and one assist for his home town club after coming through the Academy. 1
Rafa will have the lads ready to go against Palace and if we ever needed to get a win – it’s on Saturday.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #41I was most disappointed with the last game because it was the first chance to bed in a revised formation after having had the International break to practise. Whilst 541 has saved our season, it is too defensive when the full backs are inhibited from getting forward and yields the midfield.
I was not surprised to see us start in the same formation, as they are a top six opposition but, having seen the limited opportunities created Rafa could of repositioned Ritchie on the right wing and gone with a 4411. Using 5 players in the back line creates weaknesses in other areas of the pitch, they swamped our attackers whilst making us rely on long balls out from the back and picked us off time and again.
Whilst the 4231 formation from the previous season faltered prior to Xmas, it maybe the right opportunity to bring it back for the balance it provided and with the addition of Miggy on a flank. He had much more space to exploit in the MLS but he could benefit from the sharing the attacking responsibility, just like he has initially benefited the other forwards since he came in.
My team against palace:
Rondon
Almiron–Perez–Ritchie
Shelvey—-Diame
Dummett–Lejuene–Lascelles–Yedlin
Dubravka

Yes that’s the case for most of our players. If we want to improve we need better than Perez, randon, Ritchie etc. But it’s easier said than done when you have an owner like ours.
For what it’s worth, I could see him playing for those clubs. Teams that want to win the ball early and high up, a player like Perez becomes very useful and there’s a fair case here to suggest that he’d be more productive with better players around.

I would actually keep the formation of 3/5 at the back for home games. We have won our previous 5 home games using this formation. Our away record is not so much good though and was actually better earlier in the season playing 4231 away from home.
Maybe away games switch to 4231?

Well argued points. I’ll admit I’m a bit biased, re both players mentioned. I probably underestimate Shelvey’s contribution and overestimate Perez’s.
On upgrading, maybe the lot of them need that, given relegations and recent positions 😉

Comment #45It seems we can’t seem to get the blend right we couldn’t win for ages at home when it was crying out for 3 at the back against the lesser teams to get more attackers on the pitch we then switched to 3 at the back and started winning games!
Whatever we are doing away from home is not really working I think the 3 at the back is allowing teams to hem us in and double up on our wing backs being so defensive and allowing teams to get a rhythm which gets their fans going is not such a good idea! It would be better if we came out the blocks flying unsettle them and try and take control of a game rather than starting slowly?

Comment #46Think it’s fair to say we are no longer balance sheet champions!
Sad day for all.

Somebody should tell him them there is no point as they’re fit for purpose.

You would think with figures like that getting bandied about the penny would finally drop with Ashley?
The thing is we do actually make a lot of money its just its getting siphoned off to his companies…….
Ashley figures will also say “Well Spurs haven’t signed anyone for 2 windows” yeah but they have built a top quality stadium in that time and will no doubt be back to spending in the summer !!

Comment #50Cyprus, certainly if Rafa wants to go to the next level, a number of our players need upgrading – and he does.
He’s got the very best out of a pretty average squad but he’s not happy fighting relegation. Nor am I tbh! None of us are. Clearly this squad can’t challenge for a Cup – obviously the league is out of our reach – so changes are needed.
He was walking about needing to spend as much as £75m on the attack. Well, clearly Almiron isn’t going anywhere, he’s just brought him in and hasn’t been able to get the best out of him, but he is a No10 and he’s said for a while he’s wanted a new No10, which must put a question mark over the current No10 which has been Perez.
I doubt he’s thinking of spending everything on another striker, so I think that speaks for itself mate. I can’t see Perez settling for a place on the bench and he’s had long enough to establish himself already. To me it’s all about reading between the lines. I might be wrong – wouldn’t be the first time for sure – but I just don’t see Perez as the future.
Then again, can anybody really second guess Rafa? We all tried with the bingo game and nobody fared that well did they? 🙂
As much as I’ve always believed Rafa will stay, its been tempered by the ability of Ashley to snatch defeat from the Jaws of victory. I’ve no doubt Rafa wants to stay – I believe that 100% – but he won’t unless Ashley gives quite a lot. I think Ashley will give, it all depends how much. If Rafa gets anything like what he wants, then I can see a few of the current first team leaving.

Comment #52hope your right Bobby i really do,
but with ashLIE involved in the negotiations anything could and probably will happen, just got no trust in the man what so ever, even if ashLIE makes a deal to keep Rafa there’s no guarantee he’ll keep it !!!!!

Comment #53Roman Abramovich not taken up his executive suite for next season – although that’s hardly surprising as he’s banned from the country. It costs a million a season ffs. Anybody else thinking he’s fallen out of love with the idea of owning a club he’s not allowed to support anymore? All because our honest govt wants everyone to believe in Russian Spy stories. Support for the other Russia story that was utter nonsense.
I think he’s been badly treated considering what he’s done for Chelsea and the employment it’s brought. Sport and politics should be separated wherever possible imo.

Comment #54Hibbett, I’ve no idea if I am mate. I’ve got to stress it’s nothing more than a gut feeling I’ve had for a long time, it’s based on nothing concrete whatsoever, so there’s every chance I might be wrong. As I’ve just reiterated, it’s tempered by Ashley’s ability to make a pigs ear out of it. We all get gut feelings don’t we?
Even if I’m wrong this time mate, I’ve been right the previous half dozen or more times people have had him out the door, so it’s still a decent record!! Bit of a free shot this time really. 🙂
I do think he’ll stay though, but with Ashley and his often total disregard for what’s best for the club, would I be shocked if he pressed the self destruct button? Not at all. He’s certainly capable of it as we all know. I just wish, like everybody else, that he’d keep his false promises and sell up. Nobody wants him here after all.

Comment #55And by nobody, I mean NOBODY! NOBODY! NOBODY NOBODY!! Get out! Begone you monster! Never darken our door again! You are not wanted here! ( Get the picture?)
Actually, he’s so thick skinned, he probably wouldn’t.
Don’t worry though, the club will be up for sale again next December….
