Newcastle United have been watching 28-year-old Duvan Zapata who plays for Sampdoria but is on loan for the season at Atalanta, who are based in Bergamo, Lombardy.
He has had an outstanding season scoring 24 goals and having 7 assists in his 38 total appearances.
His contract at Sampdoria has another three years to run.
The 28-year-old was at Napoli back in 2013 when Rafa Benitez was the manager there, and it seems the Newcastle manager rates the 6ft 2ins striker.
But he will cost €50M, and that may put Newcastle off – we wonder if Mike Ashley will pay out that kind of money for a player his age.
Both West Ham and Inter-Milan are also interested in signing the big center-forward who has had such an impressive season in Serie A.
Zapata has 6 caps for Columbia and had his first call-up for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia and Ecuador in March 2017, but he did not make the final 23-man squad.
Maybe Zapata could be an alternative for Salomon Rondon, but Salomon should be signed even if he costs Newcastle £20M in the summer.
The Venezuelan has already proved himself at Newcastle, and this should soon be his best season ever in the Premier League.
He already has 9 Premier League goals to his name which is what he scored during his first season at West Brom back in season 2015-2016.
