Is Rafa Really Thinking Of Signing This Striker In Summer?

Newcastle United are reported to be looking to buy former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko in the summer.

Dzeko moved to Roma from Manchester City in the summer of 2016 after he had spent one season on loan at Roma when he scored 10 goals in 39 total games.

His stats at Roma are excellent, and in 171 total games, he has scored 85 goals with 36 assists – this season he has scored 12 goals and 8 assists in 32 games.

The report is from the Italian outlet Tuttomercato Web.

Edin Dzeko in action for Roma

The 101 times capped Bosnian International (55 goals) could be available in the summer with his three year deal in Rome running out at the end of June.

The report is that both Newcastle and West Ham have made moves for the 33-year-old and that Newcastle bid €10M for the striker.

That was below Roma’s asking price, and his wages must be sky-high too.

So we’d be shocked if Mike Ashley will allow Rafa to bring Dzeko in – although with his stats over this season suggesting the big Bosnian striker can still score goals for some club in the future.

In any case, Manuel Pellegrini has an advantage over Newcastle and Rafa in that Pellegrini was his manager at City for three years until the summer of 2016 when both left the club.

There’s no doubt Dzeko has been a fabulous striker in his career and in 548 total appearances he has scored 258 goals with 111 assists.

We need a young Edin Dzeko (or a young Alan Shearer) brought in this summer – wherever they may be at the moment.

I mentioned this the other day, we won’t get him for 2 reasons:-

    1, He’s too old
    2. He’ll want too much money

Move along, nothing to see here.

Not sure we’ve had the best results signing storied strikers in the Autumn of their careers. Kluivert, Rush, Owen, Ferguson and Viduka have all been largely deemed failures, despite the massive reputations which preceded them.

However, this is a different era, Dzeko was always a fantastic professional who no doubt has kept himself in top condition throughout his career, I don’t remember any massive injuries for him – it could work…

I’d be delighted to see him come, as long as he was Rafa’s choice. Couple of seasons in the first team, teach the likes of Sorensen, Toure, Juanito and Charman how to ply like him and then move to a coaching role.

    Sounds good to me.

If Benitz is looking to sign players this old you would have to question his sanity. Paper talk I hope. – Next.
