What Exactly Happened With This Newcastle Player?

Newcastle have recently recalled both Elias Sorensen (Blackpool), and Cal Roberts (Crewe Alexandra) have returned to St. James’ Park from their respective loan spells becasue they were not getting enough playing time.

They will now play for the U23 team for the rest of the season.

And we heard from left-back Antonio Barreca who has made only one short sub appearance for Newcastle since arriving at the end of January on loan from Monaco.

Antonio doesn’t even make the squad these days, and he’s been unlucky since Paul Dummett has returned from injury and Matt Ritchie continues to perform well in the left-wing back position.

Antonio Barreca’s only appearance – against Tottenham – as a sub

So it was not surprising when the Italian sent out a cryptic Instagram message earlier in the week.

Ehy @nufc – I’m here too.! Have you forgotten!?

The 24-year-old was born in Turin, and he’s got to be frustrated that he has been given no opportunities at Newcastle.

But it seems he’s not up to scratch and will return to Monaco this summer with Newcastle not picking the option to buy they have in his loan contract.

It seems he was backup for Dummett in case Paul had some additional injury problems this year.

As we saw with Sorensen and Roberts, these loan deals just don’t work out – for various reasons.

What do you think?

I personally feel that Rafa just likes having every position covered by 2 players – so he got Barreca in on loan as a when needed player, if there are injuries to other players.

An interesting suggestion for a possible LB / LWB is Blas Riveros – Paraguayan who plays at Basle. At least he will pass to Almiron!

If Barecca was good enough, I can’t imagine Rafa would ignore him – unless he’s making a point. The point being, he wants to decide who comes in and nobody else.
From what I can gather, Rafa, didn’t really want him. And from what we’ve seen, him not playing and not even making the bench – when we’re not blessed with left backs – it may be that Rafa is saying “you brought him in, you pay his wages for nothing”. Clearly Rafa won’t be told who to pick and this may be him making that point? That’s all I can think of. Unless he’s just totally useless? Which may be why Rafa didn’t choose him.

posters on here auto selected Barreca in their first choice xi’s just because we signed him
they actually knew nothing about him
the fact that he couldn’t get a look in at a dour monaco side said it all

nicky being one who claimed he was a world class signing

C dog, do you even follow what happens in the club mate? Are you not listening to what Rafa’s saying? He’ll sit down with Ashley when we’re safe. Not until. So how can anything get sorted until Rafa sits down and discusses it? Everybody else knows this. Why don’t you?

I’ll recall yours, saying we’ll lose every game. So smart ass, answer my question. Why don’t you know Rafa won’t sit down until we’re safe? Or do you love bringing negativity to the blog? It’s not sorted because he hasn’t sat down and talked yet. Common knowledge amongst Newcastle fans.

You go trawling through my old comments, you sad git 🙂 I’ve got better things to do than trawl through your crap. Knock yourself out pal. You desperately try to prove… what? June? Seriously? Must’ve had a big effect on you, dammed if I remember anything you said nearly a year ago. 🙂 But still, feel free. Get excited about whatever. Wow, how sad is that? Get over whatever I said, it can’t hurt anybody.

Thanks for asking how things are in
Walmington on Sea. You weren’t supposed to that Wrinkly Ville’s the town’s code name to be used in the event of invasion by those pesky Germans and their allies!

As it is, spirit’s high among the townspeople despite food rationing, a shortage of foodstuffs and restrictions on movement.

The.CinC, General May’s trying her best to deal with fifth columnists, the area’s toffs who want to fight the Hun, but May’s frightened to have them shot! There’s a communist involved in things now but he’s got to be watched – he’s got an allotment and he’s a food source should we go into lock-down.

One of our neighbours, Walker, is trying to sell the town’s football club but despite interest, nobody’s prepared to offer what he’s asking because they know he’s a spiv and can’t be trusted! We’ll carry on supporting it no matter what – the men are a credit to us all. Got to keep morale up though.
