Intriguing Report – Rafa Benitez Planning Major Changes This Summer

TEAMtalk are reporting in an exclusive today that Rafa Benitez is going to make some big changes in the summer and he’s planning a triple swoop with West Brom.

We currently have both Dwight Gayle and Jacob Murphy on loan at the Championship club

The proposed deal is to allow the two loanees to make their moves permanent, but in exchange for three Baggies players – Salomon Rondon, Jake Livermore, and Kieron Gibbs.

There would be money paid from Newcastle we assume along with Gayle and Murphy.

The deal would only happen if West Brom fail to get promoted.

Currently, the Baggies are in 4th place on 70 points and 7 points behind second-placed Sheffield United and automatic promotion – and only six games to play.

West Brom would have to get promoted via the playoffs.

Jake Livermore in action against Newcastle last season

Newcastle must somehow get Salomon Rondon signed permanently this summer if Rafa is to sign an extended contract to stay at Newcastle.

One problem with the swap deal is the form of Jacob Murphy and while the Baggies are keen to sign Dwight Gayle – the same cannot be said for Jacob.

Gayle has scored 17 Championship goals for West Brom this season but Murphy hasn’t played that well while on loan.

In fact, he’s been a bit of flop since he was signed for around £12M almost two years ago from Norwich City.

Rafa has wanted a left back in to challenge Paul Dummett for some time now and the 29-year-old England International Gibbs would do that.

And 29-year-old Livermore can give us some central midfield expertise with perhaps three central midfield players – Hayden, Diame, and Shelvey –  all leaving the Magpies this summer.

So it sounds a decent deal for Newcastle but we’d be surprised if Murphy is included in any deal.

And if West Brom are promoted it’s a non-starter.

And all three West Brom players are 29-years-old and maybe that’s the answer Rafa is waiting for from owner Mike Ashley – whether Ashley is willing to sign these three older players?

The answer is likely to be no.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    Have I missed something?

Why is fatty doing a lie detector test?

Also, have they found one which can measure pulse rates below all that lard?

Also, Lindi you’re now responsible for a forty fold increase in heart attacks across the North East of England. I hope you’re proud 😉

So we are to believe that between eating, trying to pull a fast one against Debenhams, and sleeping—Mike Ashley cannot find 15 minutes in his day to take a phone call from Charnley in regards to Rafa’s future at the club. Righto then.

I wonder if he’d take a lie detector to test his claim about having the highest score ever on a lie detector

I was optimistic regarding Rafa signing back up a couple of weeks ago but If i’m honest as every day passes hope is slipping and I wouldn’t blame him one iota.

Strange how Ashley could find plenty of time to visit games, put on a shindig for the players, and generally breath down Rafa’s and the players’ necks, when relegation looked a real possibility earlier in the season.

Yes, I am quite sure Ashley is a very busy man right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if he swans off on his holidays (styled as a business trip) early, and leaves behind a ‘take it or leave it’ offer for Benitez.

Thanks Toon22. I wonder what questions he was asked.

Presumably “do you routinely eat seven breakfasts?” isn’t relevant to the world of corporate high finance.

I’d be far more interested in him answering questions like “are you a sh!tbag” or “would you sell your granny for two quid and a Greggs pastie?”

Still not relevant to the world of corporate high finance but at least we’d have a laugh out of the turd burger for once.

Livermore, Gibbs and Rondon on permanents would be welcome additions, but they wouldn’t represent major changes. They’d improve us, but it’d be more in line with what happened last season with Ki, Fernandez and Rondon in on loan. We’d certainly still need another two upgrades up front as well, of the quality of Almiron and Rondon, and under 25 and from a foreign league is where we are most likely to get better value for the club.

Possibly for the sake of fairness Minster could take a two week holiday to see if he will be missed?

Job has already set a precedent by his jaunts to Spain to “open up his property” whatever that is a euphemism for. Generally the result seems to be he comes back as welcome as next doors wormy mongrel dragging it’s cleft across your newly laid white Berber carpet.

Hoping Rafa goes back to his favorite formation. It was needed because the strength of the team was in central defense but now I think his hand may be forced. Would love to see

    Rondon
    Ritchie almiron Perez
    Shelves/ki Hayden
    Dummet lascelles Fernandez/schar maquilo

Hayden with freedom to break up play where he’s been so good covering massive amounts of pitch in the middle and almiron pressing up higher and getting amongst rondon

No, the old system meant ugly boring unwatchable football. The new one with two able attacking wing backs in Ritchie Yedlin gives options and width going forward and a solid defence too.
