Fans and journalists alike are offering Florian Lejeune both their support and sympathy after it was officially learned what was feared on Saturday afternoon against Crystal Palace – he suffered another ACL injury – this time to his left knee.
That’s two ACL injuries for the 27-year-old Frenchman in a short nine months, but he’ll get all the support in the world from Newcastle fans for the next several months.
And thanks to massive improvements in medical surgery, recovery and rehabilitation techniques it’s not the career killer it used to be to footballers decades ago.
Florian Lejeune – in pain after suffering another terrible injury
Confirmed left ACL tear for Florian Lejeune, disclosed by player on his instagram acct. Team reports only as “significant” season ending injury. Surgery will be pending.

Gutted to see Lejeune out again. With his injury record, it would be easy to criticise but I’ve appreciated his attitude every time he’s on the pitch. He will be a huge miss. Silver lining though, we do have a strong contingent on central defenders. I think we’ll be ok. #nufc

Florian Lejeune knows exactly what it takes to come back from a serious knee injury – well ahead of schedule. Tough summer ahead for him but key to his quick ACL recovery last time was his positive attitude and determination. Different knee this time but he’ll be back #nufc
